Hello. Since I have decided to draw one digital painting a day now, I will make them part of a "series" just for fun. Basically they will follow this ODST through all kinds of environments, in a chronological order.

Feel free to post ideas for the next environment, that would make it more challenging for me, and probably more interesting pictures for you.

Day 5: http://yfrog.com/b7odstf5fin2j

Day 1: http://yfrog.com/baodstf1j

Day 2: http://yfrog.com/10odstf21j

Day 3: http://yfrog.com/e7odstf3j

Day 4: http://yfrog.com/1fodstf4fixj

This is all done for training purposes, so please give me constructive critisism if you find anything wrong or "odd" with the paintings.

Thanks! its hard to notice those things after working on the same piece for a while :/

If you look closely at the leg it does turn the right way, but the grass makes it appear as its goin the opposite.

Oh, and I'm using the intous 3 a4. worth every penny.

Some can come away from reading "War and Peace" thinking it a simple adventure story, while others can read the ingredients on a gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.

Good, but yeah a bit odd.

Try it with like rain and lightning in the background with city ruins aflame or something. Perhaps even a snow storm.

Or if you really wanna take a risk a celestial background with the ODST walking among a fleet battle. Kinda like Reach with the planet behind the spartans.

If you use any of these ideas, keep me updated! I haz plenty, but i don't even know how to make a doodle of an ODST.

Every night at the stroke of twelve, McHenry would lurch from his grave, REEKING OF ASS AND DEATH

Great use of lighting, Just very good over-all.

Did you use the pre-set brushes for this?

-Quaere verum.

Got a report? Use the report tool or send a pm.
Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

Looks good to me. I really like the colours and lighting on the ODST in particular. I think maybe defining and refining the foliage a bit more might help, perhaps introduce some more colours and textures (textured brushes). Also, consider the depth of field a bit more as right now it's a bit flat- looking. It's a great start anyway so keep at it. =]

Yeah, I'm somewhat new to this kind of digital painting. I'm used to paint traditionally, so I rarely use layers. I know thats a bad idea, but I'll get the hang of it eventually.

About those textured brushes; for this I only used a basic brush that randomly "splats" color around, but do you know about a more effective way to apply textures using brushes? Using Corel painter btw.

"Find The Bomb?!
Find The Bomb?!
I'm Looking For The Flag!
What The Heck Is Assualt!?"

It's all about the layers baby!

And now that, that is out of the way I must say, good show chap.

This, and the helmet of the ODST in the first picture, mostly the visor, seems a little off.

Looks good. I really like Day 2, it's an interesting point of view and I think you did a great job with the foliage on that one.

Keep it up!

part 3 is up, didn't have much time to finish it, so it's sort of "rough" around the edges

I kinda like the rough style. It feels more gritty and, to me at least, seems very fitting for the subject matter.
Day 3 is probably my favorite of them.

Keep it up!

  • 01.10.2010 3:01 PM PDT

I like them. They are much "simpler" than many out there right now and I find that appealing.

Day 4 is up. Corel kind of messed the colours up when I converted to jpeg, so ignore the "lumps" of colour on the grass ect. :/

All of your images just feel like the same thing, nothing defining them.

Please be more specific :) Feedback is one of the only reasons I made these, so I would really aprechiate it if you could tell me what I should change for the next day. The whole idea is to use this feedback to continuesly improve my work.

I really like the mood you have created with the lighting and colors. Try to make the odst look a little more realistic, but they are really good

Without me, it's just "Aweso".

Great job on all of them! I'd say Day 4 is my personal favorite.
