you are a good translatorIdiot can be a hard language to learn, but once you get it down, everything becomes so clear! The whole world will make sense to you.
A horrible scream shattered PFC Brandon Mauers frayed eardrums. A wing of Banshees shrieked overhead, targeting a large highway overpass. His watery eyes made out two neon green flashes that vaporized a large chunk of the overpass and quenched the lives of whoever was unfortunate to be fleeing on it. Around him, Ezhtergom, the largest city on the planet Reach was under siege by a hellish alien conglomerate known as the Covenant. They did not come to conquer, but to destroy.
And destroy was an understatement.
Panicking civilian masses crowded the streets, trampling riot control officers and police in an attempt to spare themselves from certain death. Hundreds were dead or dying by human instinct alone. Mauer was a UNSC Marine, and he was also off duty. He was sent to the local Jim Dandy restaurant to get a few Burgers for his buddies, but he now had another priority. Saving his own ass. He was unarmed, in his standard BDUs, and dodging hordes of civilians with no regard for anyone. Covenant ground forces would be all over the city in no time at all, so he had to find a way back to his base and regroup with his unit. That was all that mattered now.
The sound of screaming is what Mauer imagined what the depth of Hell sounded like, tormented souls wailing in agony. In unison. Mauer looked skyward as he cut through a side alley. A large violet form glided across the sky, blocking out the orange late afternoon sun. It resembled a metallic shark, terrifying and powerful. It was a Covenant cruiser. And it brought with it the death of this city on board it.
As he made his way across the alley, two M12 LRVs skidded to a halt in an open street. Six fully armed marines hopped out of the transport version of the LRV, nicknamed the Warthog by servicemen. At any rate, it was a great sight for Mauer.
Soldier, were rounding up whoever we can. Im Staff Sergeant James McKinney. We have a few extra MA5B Rifles and M6C sidearms, grab em and follow us. We are going to cut a path to our evac point at Central Park. Mauer took no time grabbing the bulky MA5B and five mags, along with an M6C if he couldnt manage a reload in time. The ammo counter on his rifle bounced to life as he pulled the charging handle. With a satisfying click, he was combat ready.
Lets do this, he said, faking slightly the confident tone in his voice. I really dont want to let these bastards burn my home today. Im PFC Mauer, with the 145th Marine Infantry Division. I was caught off guard when the attack hit.
Oh God. The 145th? Id hate to tell you this, but the Covenant got Anderson Base. Hit it with a Plasma Torpedo. No confirmed reports if there are any survivors. Sorry, Soldier, but were going to get you out of here. Hop on the Gauss Cannon on the Hog, were going to reroute and cut across the city and round up any fighting force we can get who isnt dead."
Mauer swallowed his scattered emotions and climbed on the metal bed of the Warthog and primed the cannon. He had a 40 round Magazine filled with projectiles the size of pencil erasers that were going to be shot at almost half the speed of light. It could tear through almost anything the Covenant had.
McKinney hopped into the drivers seat and revved the engine. A corporal sat shotgun toting a BR55 Carbine. The Transport Warthog had the other four Marines on board. McKinney gunned it, and the vehicle roared to life as its tires burned and propelled the vehicle straight down the abandoned street. Mauer held on nervously as the Hog fishtailed and bounced. The patrol turned around the corner to see a grim sight.
The city was already being destroyed. Fires raged on the monolithic skyscrapers as Covenant air forces began their attack runs. Most escape points for civilians were probably cut off and evacuations sites became slaughter zones. Sheep to a bleeble blabble slaughter. The Cruiser that brought forth is army of destruction hovered over the city like death itself, raining Covenant Spirit Dropships and Phantoms. Gunfire erupted from the passenger seat as the corporal opened fire, striking a stocky alien with a triangular pack on its back. Its head split like a melon and it hit the ground like a bag of cinder blocks.
Grunts, said McKinney. Not much of a threat in small numbers. Dont engage with your Gauss cannon. Well conserve ammo by running over the little uglies.
In the middle of a courtyard was a group of five of them. And they stood over the corpses of around a dozen people. Mauer wanted to blow the things to bloody ribbons but held his fire. The Warthog roared as it brought itself down upon the surprised aliens, crushing them under the weight of the vehicle. A sickening squelch was barely audible over the Warthog.
Eat it, you bastards, McKinney spat as he turned around and skidded off towards the Central Park road system.
Another Warthog fishtailed from a highway exit. It sported a LAAG machine gun and three marines. McKinney maneuvered the warthog, and allowed them to pull up next to them.
The driver of the adjacent Hog shouted, Have your gunner turn around. Hurry!
Instinctively, Mauer turned around to see a manta-like Wraith Battle Tank glide towards them, its Mortar glowing with fierce energy. Mauer brought the cannon to bear and looked through the thermal optics and found the highest concentration of heat. It was either the cockpit or engine, and hitting either would stop the vehicle. Mauer held the massive cannon steady and zeroed in. A godlike thunder shook the bed of the vehicle as a projectile pierced the polished tank. It shred through the hull and stopped the tank entirely. It began to vent sapphire flames and a smoke cloud clawed its way towards the heavens.
Mauer! Ahead!
Mauer inched the turret around to see more Covenant that he had hoped. Two Ghost Reconnaissance Craft speed towards them, plasma cannons firing wildly. Mauer put a round in the shoulder of the pilot, an Elite, one of the most fearsome of Covenant forces. It was blown apart and the Ghost was sent flying upward as the shredded corpse hit the ground with a pulpy smack.
The LAAV Warthog broke and engaged the Elites on the ground with their Grunt allies. Mauer fired another shot at the second Ghost, blowing open the hood and destroying the engine in an explosion that consumed the pilot. The magazine on the gauss cannon rotated as Mauer fired upon the energy shielded Elite warriors. Conventional bullets were painfully slow to bring them down. Fortunately he had a bit more punch. Mauer fired at the red armored Major, who was likely in command of this group of Covenant. The round hit the alien square in the torso and it dissapeared in a cloud of purple and pink gore as the round tore through it and ripped it apart. A bloody skid mark followed the chest, head, and arm of the Elite as it slid down the road.
Nice work Mauer. One more, McKinney shouted. Toast the squiddies. The LAAG will get the smaller Covenant.
Ill toast em!
Mauer saw two remaining Elites as McKinney brought the Hog around to mop up. He saw a Minor Elite toting a plasma rifle attempting to fire at the Transport Warthog. Mauer put a round in him to make sure he stopped. He swung around and removed the top half of an Elite, its legs continued to walk clumsily forward before they toppled, spilling purple blood on the road.
Nice work, everyone, said a proud McKinney over the local COMM. Everyone regroup and haul ass to the extraction point! Follow me.
