It would have to be directed by James Cameron. For several reasons.

The man just plain gets sci-fi movies. Look at the movies hes directed:

The Terminator
Aliens
Terminator 2
Strange Days
Terminator 3
Avatar

Also the movie Aliens, heavily influenced Halo. The early Assault Rifle designs looked like Pulse Rifles. The Elites were loosely based on the aliens. Sgt. Johnson is a carbon copy of Apone.

If Cameron doesnt direct it; it will follow the path of many game to movie projects.

I started Starori games in 2011.

No one has the right to take the life of another.

It depends because you never know if the film will be screwed up or even just overly done. What I would really want is for them to continue on with the Halo shorts they did for when they advertised Halo 3. I did however post awhile back that the films should be split up.

-The first film dealing with the Spartan's training and the teams missions all the way up to Reach.

-Then the second film would deal with Reach and the events on Alpha Halo(Installation 04).

-Third film would then go on after the destruction of Installation 04 and what happen to John before arriving on Earth, then events of Halo 2 and 3. Also you could add the rest of the novels events in with the movie then we are going to be looking at some lengthy films here.

I wouldn't let Cameron anywhere near the screenplay. The guy is brilliant from a standpoint of wowing you with effects.
Halo won't get made until MicroSoft stops demanding that they take non of the risks and get 100% of the profits. Not too many studios or directors are willing to go for that kind of action. It will get made, but not neccessarily in our lifetimes.
