Subject: Dead elites in ODST

The thing is - while Sangheili are remarkable fighters, brilliant tacticians and compared to humans, a lot stronger physically, they are still inferior to Brutes in physical strenght and in numbers. So, assuming the elites were not prepared for the Jiralhanaes' betrayals, they would have been easily overwhelmed.
But tensions ran high and I'm actually pretty damn sure the Sangheili were more than a little cautious around them - and even though we never saw any live Elites in the game, I'm sure there were survivors fighting behind the scenes.

i for one hate that idea because an elite could own a brute.

One on one fistfight, a Brute can own anything we've seen due to their remarkable stamina and physical strenght, augmented by their armor. But as the Halo 3 cutscene shows, in space combat elites are nigh-unbeatable unless against vastly superior technology (the Forerunner Dreadnought) coming on top with 3:1 odds against them.

Also, theres an order66? Why havent i heard of this?

I believe he was making a reference to the Star Wars "Order 66", which is the order for all of the Clones to turn on the Jedi. God, those were the days.

1)elites hated brutes they would kill themselves before nealing them.

2)that rallying idea would have been so cool if the elites wouldnt have owned all brutes

3)im confused about one thing in halo 3 and halo 3 odst, dint hunters join the elites (you got to fight with them and the guy said the hunters have joined us.) so it should be elites and hunters rallying and owning right?

4)a brute can be killed by spartan or elite in one on one, it depends on luck, brutes may be stronger but they soon get enraged and thats when the others (spartan or elite) own them. oh and they would get enraged with one punch, cause they think they gangster

It makes a little sense now. I was thinking. Its good that the elites got owned.

Why,you ask?

I'll tell you. That way,the Humans are fighting TWO enemies. Most elites wouldnt join the humans, because they hate each other. Elites are still considered the humans enemies, even though most people on earth dont know the arbitor has switched sides. Killing the elites causes earths highly stressed armies to fight one,and only one (though superior) force.

The second reason is that, when the fleet master blew up africa, to prevent the spread of the flood, he would've killed elites fighting on the ground....

It's a good idea but it's too late to implement now

They didn't all change sides but quite a few did. Also I doubt they would put that many Hunters on the ground in New Mombasa, it was just a defend job and Hunters are the Covenants best and rarest unit.

It would be cool if you see a elite hiding in a ally of Mombassa streets and then a jackal snipes him in the head. But i would feel sorry for the elite

Elites dont hide. Cowardice is shunted in elite society. They go down guns blazing.
No Sangheili hides. They have honor. They will stand and fight till the end.

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

well then what about the earlier missions, such as Tayari Plaza, where you in fact see the dead elites? i'm sure there would have still been quite few elites in the city still, especially considering the fact that the official elite rebellion in halo 2 didn't start until well after MC left earth and followed Regret through the slip-space rupture. the true reason why there aren't any elite in ODST is simply that Bungie just got plain lazy and i didn't feel like going through the process of reprogramming elite AI.

The full strength Brute fleet arrived the day before and mopped up any surviving squads hours before that. The city had been occupied a lot longer than 6 hours.

Mess with the best, die like the rest.

you could choose between helping the elite or letting the brutes kill him (the elite would still own a few of the hairy bastards anyway) if you help the elite he would follow you around for the rest of the game helping you own brutes with his energy sword

An elite ally,no.

The point of this thread was to be able to see a bit of the schism TAKE PLACE,on the ground.

As for reprograming elite AI, Elites wouldnt be added into firefight (which is why the AI was reprogrammed) so i doubt it was THAT much work. They could've just used the codes from Halo3's elites. And,since the elite is going to die/ or die pretty quickly, theres no need for complex amounts of code,as long as the player SEES the struggle. The player doesnt even need to intervene. You know?

Like in the level, the Arbitor, When there are flood combat forms fighting heretic elites through the floor, You cant intervene, but you can vaguely make out a battle taking place through the floor.

Favorite video game series: Professor Layton or Half-Life
Favorite video game: Super Mario Galaxy
Favorite movie series: Pixar (It's not really a series, but I just can't pick.)
Favorite movie: Inception

I would like to see more of the...well, I can't think of the word, but I would like to see stuff like Jackals annoying the Grunts in Reach.

Put quite simply, THE ELITES DONT NEED THE OTHER SPECIES. I mean sure, a hunter/elite alliance would've been awesome, but then the loyalist covenant would be uber LAME. Unless bungie went ahead and added the Drinol to the covenant, thus replacing the hunters. That would've been a nice fight. hunter vs drinol.

Anyway..... The schism wasnt captured in ODST, and i'm upset. They should have. It would've been awesome.

Elites dont hide. Cowardice is shunted in elite society. They go down guns blazing.

To note: in the short story "The Mona Lisa" all of the remaining elites were cowering in the dark, at least the first one was obviously running from the fight.

why is there energy swords if you cant use them for all of yall who hasnt seen them they are on the 2 level you are gonna play as buck you got to go past the 1st place where the dead elites are and when you get to the 2nd place where the dead elites are look on the sides of one elite and there are 2 of them but they wont let you get them i dont know why i think bungie made it where you cant whats a halo game without energy swords.

I would prefer you turn a corner and see a berzerking brute beating a half-dead elite, then when the brute sees you he charges and you kill him, then approach the elite and he wispers something to you in sangheli and dies. That would have been awesome.

While this would've been an epic scenario, the fact is that after 6 hours of Brute occupation, it's likely any targeted Sangheili would've been long dead before the Rookie found them.

-=Moxus=-

6 hours?

Try 6 minutes. The first guy you play as other than the rookie encounters dead elites.

This would have been SICK. Elites show that the UNSC have a chance, that they aren't alone. The Elites, particuarly Arbiter, make the human race earn morale and adds firepower. Arbiter is almost as good as our beloved MC, and adds the two player mode without adding a Spartan. MC is suppossed to be the last one left, and they wanted to keep it that way.

I think that the Elites in ODST would have shown that the human depended on the Elites, and the Elites depended on them. Without the Elites, the armies would have lost morale, and gradually lost. If one of them was with you in the ONI inside, and sacrifices himself so you could make the Pelican.......

What bothers me is there are never dead brutes around the dead elites and the weapons are always fully charged.
It's like they just said "Oh dear, the brutes are revolting. Should we fight back? Nah."
I think what would've been cool is at the end, instead of assuming the engineer was friendly, You and Dare run into a surviving elite that was trying to save the engineer. Since both species have translators they could've talked to each other. A way the elite could enter in is in a cutscene. When your about to enter the data center instead of fighting the brutes there the elite jumps down with an energy sword and kills the brutes. However you'd have to help him kill the chieftain because the elite's sword would run out of energy during the cutscene (otherwise he'd just attack the Rookie and Dare).

There are dead Brutes near the Elite bodies. Up in that building to your right just after Buck comes across the two Marines?

Even Vergil says something about it. Can't remember what, exactly. Something about foul play perhaps?

But the dead Brutes are there.

I don't remember seeing dead Brutes in the second area (Where Buck actually asks about why all the dead Elites) but I believe that is because the Huragok are placing their bodies under the stairs, because later (when you're the Rookie) the bodies are further back against the wall with barricades placed near them and Huragok symbols on the walls. Mourning the dead, I would think.
