I just went and picked up the first book in the halo series, 'fall of reach'...interesting read. It just makes me wonder how long till somebody wants to try to make halo into a movie. I have always been a sceptic of transfering popular mediums from one to the other...that is, till the lotr trilogy was made into one of my favorite movie series. And i was a fan of the books long before the movies were concieved. Having seen how brilliantly the movie transcended the books, it makes me wonder if another peter jackson ish director could make a killer movie out of our favorite vid game. Thought this would make an interesting thread...lemme know what you guys think about that kind of thing.

I've already posted something like should PJ direct Halo, and 90% agreed.

Bungie wont make a movie of Halo for rating reasons. There have been so many bad movies on video games in the past (Mortal Kombat, Donkey Kong, Tomb Raider, etc.) that Bungie doesn't want Halo to meet the same fate.

I dont know if anyone noticed, but all those movies that have been made from video games had one very common flaw: they took elements from the games and tried to make thier own story; they didnt stick to what the fans loved about the video games. Thats why LotR was so successfull...they took an incredibly popular series and stuck to it. I think, in the devastating lack of good sci-fi movies recently (one recalls such 'hits' as battlefield earth) something like a loyal halo movie (and by loyal i mean following a story line already laid out) would be awesome...or maybe they could do something like what square enix is doing with final fantasy:advent children.

I think it would be nice to have a Halo movie but I have to stick with Bungie. Although it would be sweet, we want to keep that popularity of the game. I don't think they want to take the risk.

Well, with the Nitemare Armor, the armor may be cool. Get yourself the who was Apone in Aliens as Sargeant Johnson, Vin Diesel as at least one marine and thats i could think of.

Maybe after Halo 3 is released, and Bungie helps write the script, and works with whatever movie company is filming it to make sure it's done right. Here's Bungies view from their FAQ's page.

"Q I read there is going to be a big-budget Hollywood movie of Halo starring Vin Diesel as the Master Chief and a -blam!- star as the voice of Cortana. When should I start lining up outside my local theater?
A You shouldn't. Lots of people have come around trying to get the rights to make a Halo movie, but Bungie has not sold the movie rights to anyone. (And yes, it IS Bungie's decision.) There are lots of bad movies based on video games, and we don't want Halo to meet the same fate. "

This isn't saying there will never be a movie, but that they haven't sold the rights to anyone, and they don't want it to be a bad movie. But this sounds to me like if someone went to them and threw some great ideas at them then it's something they might consider.

Personally, I doubt we will ever see a Halo movie, but you never know.

They'd better not make a movie of Halo. I think it would just ruin the series. I couldn't believe they made a Mario Bros. movie. That's one of the last series that should ever even be considered for a movie adaption. While Halo could be a great movie, I just don't think it would be.

If done right, a movie could be awesome. With a big budget, a good writer, and some decent actors I dont see where things could go wrong. If they got Nylund to write the screenplay I think the movie would be fantastic. They would definitely have to incorporate parts of Fall of Reach into the story, though, to give background and substance to everything.

In all honesty, I dont think having Nylund writing the script would be a good idea. I think the books were entertaining, but they weren't great...the writing style was, i thought, somewhat crude. Not to bash the books or anything like that...like i said, I enjoyed them; but in comparison to some of his sci fi contempories Nylund has a long way to go. I only responded to that because i think its something interesting to think about...
