I am one of the many people that use the Boxer button layout. Anyone know if i am going to have to change up to Default settings since by hitting the melee buton makes you drop your 2nd gun?

My friend has the same problem, I think it's your best bet to just switch to regular controls just to be safe.

When you get the game, try playing around with whichever ones you like.

Thanks guys but if I am going to "be all that I can be" then I need to be in top form come Nov (th (or Aug 24th depending on which side of the fence you stand on) It wouldn't help me make more online friends if I go to mele someone and toss a gernade over their head and kill the teammate i was trying to save.

I feel your pain. My most substantial experience with FPS before Halo came from Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, so Halo's controls felt very strange. I wasn't used to using the left analog stick for strafing and the right stick used for turning. So, naturally, I changed the control setting for a more natural feel.

But then I heard about the new sprinting feature in Halo 2, which allows you to have a short burst of speed by pushing "up" on the D-pad. While sprinting you'll be able to turn left/right, but you can't strafe. So to be able to use the sprinting in Halo 2, I had to switch my controls back to the default, because I can't turn with the left stick (with my left thumb) while pushing "up" on the D-pad (also with my left thumb).

BTW, after several months of playing with the default Halo controls, I hold that using the left stick for turning and the right stick for strafing allows for *much* more accurate aiming.

Definatly not pointless for me and all of the people who do not play with Default controls. I am actually suprised that noone has brought this up. I know that a lot of lefties find jumpy to be more useful because they cannot move forward with the right thumbstick and press the a button at the same time. will they now have to jusmp and shoot the left weapon at the same time? or will they have to hit the a button to fire the left handed weapon?

rimit I too am a perfect dark (game that was WAY ahead of it's time) and Goldeneye convert. I think the fact that it was a completely new controller helped me adjust but I had a very frustrating time during the learning phase.

Go play halo and figure out what suits you.

You can still do a melee while dual wielding, the only thing is once you do it you drop the weapon your left hand was holding. But your melee remains just as fluid and quick as without the dual wielding.

But if i were you (any of you) I'd play on Green Thumb setting. Cus everyone else does it even while wielding and they are super quick, its near scary.

thanks muellers. My question would be if I have the boxer button layout (melee is atatched to the left trigger) Would I drop my 2nd gun when I try to hit someone? Same for my wife when she tries to jump( jump is assigned to the left trigger)?

Thanks for posting Draag.
maybe if enough of us are inquisitive enough we might get lucky and get a litle info so that we can practice a little on the best control setup on our copies of Halo 1.

You know I don't see why you couldn't use boxer still. Bungie can always go and work a scheme that works for each control type. I am sure they could find a way to adjust it for the boxer scheme.

Yeah, you must hit B to drop weapon, (which would be grenade) and you would shoot with the left trigger while duel wielding, and melee with the left trigger when not duel wielding.

I was a default controller person, my friend told me to try boxer (which i accustomed to quickly) But i switched back because of the clumsy secondary fire in tanks and banshees, as well as Halo 2 worries. It took me ages to get used to the default settings again.

And person who uses Goldeneye / Perfect Dark controls.

Maybe your not as good with the new style, as we are, as you are used to the old style, you are more accurate with it, but aiming up and down was hard to do in perfect dark and goldeneye, lucky you didnt have to do it often!
