Whenever a topic is locked, could it just be moved to a different forum that bungie.net members could not post in? For example - The Underground can look sloppy when it has a bunch of locked topics. So the topics could be moved to another forum. I dunno, I thought it would help makes the forums look less sloppy.

They lock the topics as examples to others on what not to do. I f they really didn't want the community to read them they would have just deleted the thread instead.

Yep, that would defeat the purpose and almighty power of the lock button. There's a reason we don't delete all the time.

Me, making a valid point? Remember who you're talking about.

I didn't even think it was that valid. Oh well.

Even if they moved all the topics, they'd still have the original post stuck in the forum with a link to the moved topic.

It's possible to move posts without leaving the marker. It's just more useful to leave the marker so that people know that it's been moved.

Right, the point of leaving the marker is so that people don't make new posts wondering where their old posts ran off to. Either way it will clutter.

Kind of like the way that MADD will put a mangled car in front of a school for a week before prom.

Seeing what happened to others who engaged in risky behavior is a valuable lesson. Cleaning it up so that no one observes the consequences has the downside of perpetuating ignorance.

I don't think it works though. Our ignorant users don't become any less ignorant through locks. They don't read them anyway. It's one of those things that just annoys the honest people who follow the rules. It's like when teachers would punish the entire class because a small group caused trouble. I dunno about you guys, but as a behaved student, that always bugged the crap out of me.

I agree with chris, just lock the idiots that make the topics, not the threads themselves. Delete the threads, or make some kind of cache where they can be stored just to show what not to do, or to prove that this certain member broke the rules with this certain thread.

What Blackeye is saying would be the same thing as deleting. It wouldn't solve anything. People wouldn't learn from the bad, so they might make more threads about the same thing.

My standard way of operating is to delete threads with no replies (or with one reply saying "OMGWTF NOOB GO TO ZANZIBAR, or whatever), and PM the thread starter about it. If discussion has taken place, I will lock it. If it's an interesting topic that hasn't been discussed to death already I'll move it.

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

I think that the mods should leave these messages with a question at the end like "So what was your argument?" when they reply before locking a post, then lock it and delete any replies posted after the locking. That way the person who posted will be really annoyed that he couldn't answer your question. Then, if he PMs you, don't return the PM. Hehehe...

I think that the mods should continue to handle threads however they wish. Does anyone notice that there are a ton of mods in this thread?

Because that would be nice...

I wouldn't even think of doing that to someone. Tis mean and just plain rude.

I don't think moving all locked posts to one spot would be any different from deleting...
