First, sorry of any of this has been done before, if so, I'll hope for a lock on the thread or something similar.

To the thing: in this thread, I'll post difficult situations, fictional and real, that may happen in Halo Multiplayer. I'd like every visitor to throw their two cents in and and tell about the best way they would tackle it. When I have asked myself "How awesome isn't that tactic?" or "Why didn't I think of that?" I'll come with a new situation. (If discussion doesn't bring forth any good tactics in a certain situation during a limited amount of time, another scenario will come too.)

First scenario: You're on Sidewinder, a 1v1 slayer game (a tad unrealistic, but hey, it was the best I could think of) and your enemy is a coward, sniping you from afar, and always being on the "shelves" that you can come to by teleporting out of base. He's switching between the two shelves on a regular basis, and takes cover in the teleporter caves more time then he spends spotting you.
You also know that he has the control of the rocket launcers, a close range assault would be dangerous. He is a good sniper too, but not divine, yet spending time anywhere he can see you mst certainly leads to death if he can fire a clip non-stop at you.

You've got access to warthogs and ghosts, start with pistol and AR, and the weapons that the map designers put in is where the map designers put them.

How would you tackle this situation?

Version Two: You're on a team slayer game, (chose somewhere between 4v4 and 8v8) and the other team has taken control of the "shelves" and has put snipers there, and they use someone to drive a warthog with gunner around the map, which means this warthog has possibilities for covering fire backing it up.

Now, how would you advise your team to act?

1 v 1 on sidewinder, happens all too often where im from as a 1 on 1 is the true test of might and skill, anywho my solution to the first scenario would be collecting a pistol and a sniper rifle from a base and using a ghost to transport oneself to the overshield located in the middle then simple engage the enemy in a sniper war and if necissary go up and keeping them at a comfortable distance shoot them three times in the face with the pistol. well that would be my reaction however i feel that i would be the one as you say cowering with a sniper rifle and rocket launcher waiting near teleporters as it is a fact the most ruthlessly efficent player wins, me and my crew we play as cowardly and as dirty as possible and ya know playin this way is still fun if not a lil frustrating at times with loads of respawn kills.
in relation to your second scenario hmm well i figures i would just advise a split up and mutilate what you find tactic as generally i would put faith in the cunning and dirtyness of my teammates to go on sucide missions with rocket launchers on teams of snipers and tanks and ghosts for the warthog, i myself would simple engage the multiple snipers in a sniper war as i really do enjoy fighting against the odds with my trusty sniper rifle and pistol. keep im at a distance is my idea of a good time and dules from huge distances require skill and patience and wrath.

well thats how i would handel the situations put forth however my selected style of fighting and ruthlessnes is different from how alotta people play, some other answers would be intreasting.

1v1 Side Winder:

Grab a Sniper Rifle, Grenades and a pistol, instead of going throught the teleporter to where he is hiding run into the tunnels and sniper from those top levels, he has to come out sometime and thats a perfect place to snipe him. or, use grenades and blast him out.

if you go to assault him take a short range and powerful weapon like a shotgun or plasma rifle along with some grenades ( thats a pretty good combo when you think about it ) and hit him where it hurts.

do what you thinks best.

in 1v1, i'd go get the oversheild and camo inside the tunnels and then run straight over to where the enemy is and open fire when i get in pistol range

in 8v8, i'd get the team to stay in the base until we picked off the warthog with gunner, then we'd send some guys to sneak out to get the warthog and drive it back, but they'd be decoys (their purpose is not to get shot, but to shift the focus of the enemy. they would try to use enough cover to not get shot). we'd also send some guys to sneak towards the snipers. if the guys going for the warthog get sniped, then when we see where the sniper fire is coming from, we'd countersnipe.

recently, me and a friend were playing on xbc, and we decided to try something in a blood gulch ctf game.we were blue, and warthogs were the only vehicles, so we took our warthog, put it by the red teleporter (not on it), then advanced on their base. we stormed the top, made sure both of them (it was a 2 vs. 2 game) were dead, then one of us dropped into the base. he took the flag, then tossed it up to the guy on the top level, who jumped through the teleporter, and into a warthog. he then drove back home for the score. the other guy stayed at the base, and held the enemy off. it worked remarkably well.

thats a pretty good one, i like the tossing the flag up part as i never considered that you could simply jump up and toss it to the guy on top of the base. ill keep that one in mind.

do the teleporter thing with the warthog then(for experienced players only) the guy who took the flag drivesd warthog back while fighter guy hides in enemys base when the hog is setup you can take the flag go thru the porter and get two easy points better if you use three people (extra one is a driver)
really nice for 8v8

You can also do a grenade jump from flag to top of Blood Gulch base, but that will leave your shield down and potentially give away your position. But without a teammate on top it is a better option then going up the conventional way.
