Ok, everybody knows that MC is a SPARTAN II, but who were the SPARTAN I:s? Does The Fall of Reach offer any info on them? I've ordered all three books a month ago and I've only just gotten First Strike, so forgive my ignorance of some things...
The 3rd batch are the ones that CPO Mendez started to train after John -117's group, right?

That's what I think but some people said that there were a group of soldiers like the Chief, but without the MJOLNIR. I think that's silly because if there were home come John is 117 when it says there were around 150 or something like that. And also there is nothing about them.

The Spartan III are what Dr Halsey went off to get in First Strike (my opinion, not confirmed).

Actually Spartan soldiers favored round shields and spears in combat. Gladius' were used by Roman legionaires a few centuries after the battle of Thermopylae.

You've seen Troy haven't you? Spartans battle equipment equals Brad Pitts and his Myrmidons gear.

The Spartan I's were the first batch of soldiers just like the Master Chief, although they didnt have MJOLNIR aromor like he does. If you read The Fall of Reach and The Flood closely, youu would know that the Spartan I's were not the ancient Greeks.

Since I'm too tired to go through the book and pull out quotes, heres something from HBO (which is a very reliable source for info on the Halo story) - The modern Spartan program (in contrast to its ancient Greek counterpart) was initiated in 2491, an element of the ORION project. Though not much is known about the first generation of warriors (their training, augmentation, goals, etc.), they were successful enough to garner the necessary consent for a second phase, aptly named SPARTAN II.

Wow thanks! I'm gonna pick up The Fall of Reach and The Flood tomorrow, finally. It took them 5 weeks to get to Finland. F:d up, right?

But my pal has read The Fall of Reach and he says that there was no referance to the Spartan I's, but we speculated that they had to be a military project prior to the SPARTAN II, and lead by doctor Halsey. How else would she have known all the specs and risks of the augmentation and manipulation John -117's group went through? She had to have had prior testings done... How come none of these SPARTAN I's are around in the Halo books?

I think they had a small mention of it in The Fall of Reach, but you might need to read it twice to "catch it", and I'm 100% positive they talk about it in The Flood aswell.

BlueReaper Signing Off

!!!VAK ZOOI!!! is a term frequently used in multiplayer.

The first batch of Spartans weren't called Spartan 1's, just "Spartans" as mentioned in FoR and they were indeed developed in 2419 in the ORION project. In ...(I don't have the book on me now) a second batch was developed, the "Spatan II" series.

I even think that some of the first batch are still around, regarding the "Not by Flood infectable Sarge and Dead Marine in the Library" These two marines have shown incredible endurence in combat that would fit a first series Spartan.

As this topic has been intensivly discussed before, I'm not going in discussion again. I leave it op to you to deside what you beleive.
