My disk has the same ring you mention and I don't think it was there before the update, but I can't be sure. I do know that I have experienced the same map loading problems many have complained about. I feel confident that the problems many of us are experiencing is strictly due to the update itself and how it affects the operation of either the hard drive, the software, or the cache. Like may people, my gaming was perfectly fine prior to the update and now map loading is either very very slow or impossible. I have a neighbor that doesn't play Halo on Live. I brought his XBOX over to my place, inserted my disk (with scraches/ring) and didn't have any trouble loading the maps that came with the original game. Everything was working fine. Then I loaded my Live account info on his XBX and logged on to live. Once I loaded the update, the same problems showed up on his XBOX. I should mention that in all of these scenarios, I was attempting to load maps in the split screen mode and WAS NOT logged on to Live when attempting to load the maps. I wanted to make sure that any delays I was experiencing were not due to the live system in any way. So now, I have two comfirmed cases where everything was working fine before the update and not afterwards. Since my disk was working well on his computer before the update, I don't think the ring on the disk is the problem. I should also mention that I am an average dad of two who doen't have the time or interest in modding in any way. I have also tried deleting everything from my XBOX and have downloaded the updates and maps a second time to no avail. When I call 800-4MY-XBOX all I get is " we apologize for you inconvienence" and "try again when fewer players are on line". I think both XBOX (Microsoft) and Bungie themselves realize that something in the update is causing these problems but they are not sure what, why or how to fix the problem. I am so glad that they are attempting to get rid of the cheaters; however, I would rather play with cheaters than not be able to play at all. If you find a solution to our problems, please post info so we can all benefit.
