A beta does not effect the value of a purchase, especially considering it's only a couple weeks in length. Most people are paid to play a beta, so you could actually twist that arguement around and claim it's MORE of a rip off after the beta.
How does an added feature in a game not affect the price of the game?
A beta is a test, people make careers out of testing games, it helps find early bugs and glitches to solve, it's a simple gimic and does not increase the value.
Yup a select few people do, but know we have the opportunity to get early access to portions of a new game. It is an additional feature and adds to the total value of the game. People make their lives playing video games, does that mean that any video game doesn't have value because a portion of the population make money doing it.
And to the crackdown bit, did more people not buy the game because it had the Halo 3 beta, because if so that added more value to that game and it sold better because of it. Crackdown, in my opinion, wasn't that great of a game but the I would have been more willing to buy it because it was average and came with the Halo 3 Beta so it's value was closer to the price I was being charged.
