I posted this over on the Gearbox forums, but I thought I'd post it here to help others see it.
--------------------------------------
I suppose I am one of the countless people that absolutely love the idea of Halo CE but have never been in a situation where I could create user created content for a game...so I never learned. But I am trying to learn now. Bits and pieces here and there, problems that stump me in 3D Studio Max for days since I have no one to ask to readily answer my question, explanations online from kind souls who take the time to answer my questions but often the person answering my question is unknowingly giving me half an answer because this sort of thing is so familiar to them that they think it is a no-brainer, etc.
To make a long story short, if Gearbox (or someone) made a resource manuel on creating content specific for Halo, I would buy it in an instant. Tutorials on how to create bases that stay true to the Halo flavor, Warthog speed configuration and paint jobs, etc. I've been actively looking at many of the 3D Studio Max books and at this point, they are way over my head. I would like to see something specific to Halo, somewhere in the introduction/beginners range that could get users right into the meat of creating levels and also having chapters on the different ideas that are available like creating new vehicles, lower gravity, etc.
Something like this I think would immensely help Halo CE by bringing in more user created content by people who would never have tried or maybe who have already given up. I know a lot of you gurus out there may say that the books out are adequate...and maybe they are, but I am talking about something specific to Halo to help users jump right in. Then when they are ready to move onto something more complex, then they can go to the other books out there.
What do you all think?
