I know, 100%, that this is not the Reach forum. It is indeed the Halo CE forum. I have a feeling I'll get a more accurate answer here, mostly due to the intelligence level.

Simple question. Bungie has stated that Reach is a lot like Halo CE. Do you think it might be even better? I know that's aa lot to ask, but look at the 'Little things we took for granted' thread. Imagine if Reach took hundreds of those little things from CE and integrated them. Add on a new graphic engine, perhaps a more fun multiplayer, XBL, new weapons in addition to some of the CE favorites, and I think that Reach has a fighting chance against the dominant FPS of the decade.

Thoughts?

It will do better because of the casual crowd.

As far as a competitive shooter is concerned, it will fall short of H1.

Unless they add in; H1 physics (nading down weapons), same weapon spawn system, nades to H1 power, health blocks (already confirmed), Weapon balance (H2-H3's was a joke), and a weapon comparable to the pistol.

Of course, it will be better. Halo:CE will never die, as it is a classic that will live forever amongst us.

Quit while your behind.

Its sad, but Bungies opinion on it's own games doesnt mean much anymore because almost all the staff that worked on Halo: CE are no longer working there. Most of the skilled and talented people that created the original are long gone. Bungie have also changed there games to appeal to the casual gamers, not the Halo Veterans. So the statement "Halo: reach is going to be alot like Halo: CE" is basically a load of tripe.

I can already tell from the screenshots that this game is going to be nothing like like halo 1. Have you seen the new 28 round assault rifle? visually and mechanically, almost everything about it has changed, and changed even further from Halo 3.

I dont mean to be negative, change is usually a good thing in its own right and reach will be a good game, but my point is: dont expect it to be similar to Halo: CE and dont expect it to be "better".

needler_newbie has a point. They are completely different games now.

Classics like Halo: CE hold a certain form of nostalgia in which the gap can not be filled by better graphics, newer features and a similar gameplay style. Not to say the next release will be bad, of course. I have no doubt in my mind that Halo: Reach will be an impressive and outstanding game, but on a more emotional level I can't bring myself to say that any other Halo game in the franchise will beat the first.

I wouldn't say disapontment. The original is always the best. But Halo: Reach will be mind blowing anyways.

Yetis are real!

I think by like the graphics and multiplayer standpoint it will be better, but just it isn't much of the same game which we have held close for all these years. They have tried to bring stuff back, but they could never make it really as good (Halo: Reach should prove me wrong hopefully).

I'm making a small team making games using Unreal Development Kit. Interested? message me at TK-YK@windowslive.com

I don't think so, CE is the best and always will be.
Halo 2 and 3 can suck my balls.

no. nonono

You can't really compare them. CE is a classic because Bungie put meticulous effort into it. The game appealed to people like us, not casual gamers (wheras the latest halo games have been trying to cater to both.)

Sure, Reach's graphics will be mindblowing, but I doubt Bungie can recapture the effect CE had. CE had lots of little things that Bungie won't reintroduce that made the game what it is, like the weapon balance, the dedication put into campaign, the fear of trying it on legendary and the brilliant story.

I have doubts that Bungie will make Reach similar to CE. Reach will have some better aspects, I am sure, but CE is likely to remain my favorite Halo game.

I'm going to wait until I've played the game for a while to pass judgment.

Personally, I don't believe it will quite measure up, but it will most definitely come closest out of all the sequels. I've said this a thousand times, but it isn't the main features that make a game. Those are the minimum, the initial draw. What keeps the audience is the small stuff, the attention to detail while keeping things simple. Halo 2 was garbage, but Halo 3 and ODST built a bit on this premise.

tl;dr version: I don't expect REACH to quite match CE.

I bet Reach's Multiplayer is going to be better, but Halo CE's campaign is going to own Reach's campaign. Halo CE Elites are just too badass. I doubt that fighting Elite on Reach will be anything like fighting an elite on Halo CE.

I hope it does, but I don't see it happening. Halo: CE had an element that could have me playing for hours into the night. I didn't find that with Halo 2 and 3 (regarding campaign anyway).

  • 02.04.2010 1:21 AM PDT

I certainly hope the Campaign will be a lot better and more lengthy.

I haven't had some real true fun with the Halo Campaigns since Combat Evolved.

Halo 2 and 3 seemed rushed story-wise, to me anyways.
And ODST wasn't very lengthy, but was still fun to play with a few friends.

Combat Evolved still holds a place in my heart.

The games should be like Halo CE, given the time line, weather it is better or worse depends on what the individual is looking for. I for one feel the stripped down MA5B is out place, something that would be more appropriate in H-3 when resources are seriously strained.

Reach will definitely benefit from the revamped engine. But it will suffer from the fact that it written as prologue after the finished product, while this allows for a (hopefully) well developed story, designers can never resist the temptation to push the technology and that is reflected in the final product where the Marines have tougher armor but are using old weapons.
