Me and my cousins play 2 vs. 2 CTF at Blood Gulch with all vehicles, normal health, and normal shields. Now, my cousins are not very team oriented, but there is a tourney coming up and I want to get good, so I want to work on some basic team strategies with my cousin on this map. The problem is, I don't know very many good ones. 2 vs. 2 isn't ideal for 1 sniper, imo. So any help would be appreciated.

I find that it's really helpful to have a sniper going on Blood Gulch, no matter how many people you have on your team - it really pisses the other guys off to get sniped, and a pissed off team is a uncoordinated team.

Have your defence (which would only be one guy, really) further forward on the map, perhaps even towards the center of the map so that he can provide covering fire for you if you're running with the flag, or so that he can snipe someone going to get your flag or coming from getting your flag.

Also, the best way to grab their flag seems to be using a Ghost, simply just zipping in and running into the base with a shotgun for any close range encounters and then promptly getting your ass out of there as fast as possible, all the time with your sniper buddy covering you.

dont let a guy with a ghost get to your base it can be pretty hard to stop them on the way back so they almost always score

Thats not always going to do very well I'm afraid. If the person in the middle of the field gets killed while the person with the flag well... has the flag, thats gonna be a problem.

I've got two routes you can take okay? These have gotten me flag captures before in much more dangerous situations than two on two:

Always have one person stay inside the base with the shotgun, if someone starts throwing grenades in, get out of the way, stand behind a wall or somethin. If someone pulls up in a vehicle, and great way to piss them off and confuse them is to steal that vehicle and go block your teleporter. This way, their only way out is by foot, in which case, your sniper (hint: you need a sniper) can take them out.

Now then, your weapons are simple, have one person take a plasma rifle and a shot gun (the person staying inside the base) and have the other take a sniper rifle (pistol if you cant snipe worth --explisit deleted--) and a shotgun.

If you are at red base, move up on the right through the taliban tunnels. When you get to the end of the tunnels, stay in the shadows and move around to the back blue base. If you are spotted, make war. That is ONLY if you are spotted. As long as they dont know you are there, you have the element of surprise, your key to victory. Make sure one of the enemy players has left. If there are two people there, your chances of winning are cut down two thirds. (Dont ask, its an accurate fraction). When you enter through the back of the base, take it slowly, especially if motion trackers are on. Lightly peak around the corners, if an enemy is spotted, throw a frag, wait for the bang, and then use your shotgun to murder him. If that is the case, rush in, steal the flag, and head for the teleporter, or better yet, a warthog. (ghost if you want). If you go throw the teleporter, immediately drop the flag on the other side and get ready, the enemy will more than likely follow you throw the teleporter in and effort to get the flag back. Wait for about ten seconds, and if he doesnt show, pick up the flag and begin to run backwards towards the ledge to the left of red base. If he comes through the teleporter at any time, use your rifle/pistol to kill him once again. Your partner inside the base should have already taken care of the person trying to steal your flag, have him come out of the base, the sniper rifle should have responded by now. Have him take the rifle and go through red base teleporter. Then he should move up on the big hill to his right. Once up there, he should have a good view of the bulk of the field. Have him provide cover fire for the person with the flag (god this thing is taking forever to write). IF the person with the flag should die, the person with the sniper rifle is to make a mad dash to it while watching his back, of course. While the person who died responds and heads for it too. If it goes away, you're gonna have to start over, however, if you retrieve it, use whatever methods of defense and defensive strategy you can think of. However, if the person with the flag does not die, then its a home stretch, and a score for red team.

Here's an issue though, what if they steal your flag too? I'll get to that later, for now, I've written enough, send me a message if you want to hear blue bases side of the story and the rest of the nitty-gritty details. I'm out for now.

If you want to, you can find me on AIM at "knesbentbackward"... but it'd be easier for you to send me a message via the name thing to the left of all this.

Later peeps!

I have one thing to say to you: GET MORE PLAYERS!
Can I also ask: is this all happening on the same screen or is it a systemlink?

I hate CTF with only 2 vs 2. Its all about where the 2 people in the team are that gets the point. When its 4 vs 4 or even 8 vs 8, that's when CTF gets really really interesting.

At around 4 vs 4 (can even appear in 3 vs 3) is when the strategy really comes into its own. It can almost end up like American Football, where a 'coach' writes new plays to outwit his oppenant. You can end up coming up with some great 'plays' to get the flag on any map, although Sidewinder and Blood Gulch are probably the best (Hang 'em High is a great map, CTF is OK, but not great)

I basically suggest getting some more players involved. You may aswell play matches like:
* FFA or Team Slayer
* FFA or Team Oddball
* FFA or Team King of the Hill

instead of CTF. It really sucks when its 2 vs 2. Almost as much as 1 vs 1.

ive learned throughout playing the same gametype you do (minus all vehicles, we only use warthogs) that the best way to win a CTF game is a strong start. If you can get an early capture you can really throw the other team off and get them confused. What we do is have a sniper grab the rifle and run through the teleporter while someone else grabs the warthog and rocket launcher and attack fast. anyone else charges on foot. if its done right and well coordianted you can get everyone over there in 15-20 secs. that can really catch the other team off guard sometimes and leaves them disorrinated for the some time after that leaving an opening for another flag capture

If somebody uses a ghost to get to you bas when they get off and go into your base steal the ghost and run them over with it.

sniping is key. if you have someone moving around just killing people, it pisses the other team off, and it makes it easier to score. i'd say have one guy running around in the middle, sniping and using the pistol, and have one guy taking whatever vehicle he can to the base. i've found that when playing ctf all vehicles, using a scorpion is sometimes the best vehicle to have. one guy can run up with his scorpion, blast anyone who respawns, and the other guy can come up, grab the flag and get in a ghost.

2v2 CTF... you should switch to boards like Rat Race, Wiz, Derelict, and Prisoner.
