The Joyeuse IP Formula

But nothing has confirmed Bungie making an MMO, other than speculation. Bungie signed the deal because they wanted someone that would just give them money to make a game, and then allow Bungie to keep the IP.

Let me emphasize: Nobody has confirmed an MMO. Speculation over Staten's weird statements and Blizzard answering theoretical questions are why people are shouting "MMO!"

Oh, and Bungie said that the studio was working on a NEW universe. NEW. Not Marathon, not Halo (duhhh), not Myth, Oni, PiD, or P@S.

Blizzard have expertise AND infrastructure in place to run MMO games, and that may very well be the reason Bungie signed a deal with them. In the case of most games, the publisher is more or less irrelevant except for funding, but in the case of MMOs the publisher becomes much more involved.

Anyway, here's a thought: the new Bungie game will be set on board Marathon, except *during* it's journey to Tau Ceti. So it will be an MMO, but with a timeline already in place. Eventually the ship would reach Tau Ceti and the MMO community (who by this time would have honed their combat and trading and organisation skills) would get to play out the destiny of the human colonists in their battle with the Phor (whether on Marathon or planet side).

Great post. Linking to a long post I had about this topic in another thread you created, Cortana 5: http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=56466577&v iewreplies=true#end Near the bottom.

I just though of something. You have the marathon symbol in marathon, the marathon symbol and this Forerunner symbol appearring in forerunner stuff in halo, so maybe the above symbol has something to do with the new IP/Joyeuse?

Also, somebody said something earlier about MR54 and Master Chief being the same person in different universes, but you said you didn't like the Idea of Durandal somehow getting into the Halo universe. Well, what if, through some sort of bending of the fabric of the multiverse, Durandal is Medicant Bias?

I'm not suggesting anyone crossing universes.

I'm making theoretical parallels between characters from different universes. MRN54 and the Master Chief are two completely different people, but in terms of plot, they parallel. The same rule goes for Durandal. I'm not sure if there's any specific AI in the Haloverse that would parallel Durandal very well.

For the most part, the characters in Halo and Marathon don't exactly parallel. The plots just parallel European history/mythology.

Hey look what I found. This is a picture from the Bungie webcam. It is called the W. M. Keck Observatory. (Its the two similar looking ones. Not the zoomed in one). Near the bottom, under Instruments, there is something called Osiris, also the name of one of the Bungie trademarks. Its probaby a coincidence but who knows.

Those webcam photos have been up for a while, actually. I should really check the webcam thread in the Septagon to see when they first popped up, because I really don't remember when they did; I just know that it was a while back (probably last October).

Thanks. But for everyone reading, please don't take my word for it.

I remember talking to a friend during PAX who pointed out the fact that there are many new people at Bungie, and if the Duranda-Cortana-Joyeuse plan exited, it may be changed or even thrown out because of the new ideas and people in the company.

I think Joyeuse is Deja, she's locked up in Reach, right?
And she "knighted" Chief, I guess not really, but still.

But would that make Halsey, Charlemagne? I, personally, try to keep this theory within the core trilogy games, and out of the books for the most part.

According to wikipedia, Roland was Charlemagne's nephew.

I already knew that.

Anyways, it's nearing Bungie day! Although we won't see anything of the new IP, we will see Aerospace... and maybe a hint or ARG pertaining to the new canon as well?

It seems like all the names of the swords are almost exactly the same names as the AIs, so I don't think it's Deja. I think Aerospace will show us more when it's revealed.

Well, that's where this can get complicated.

If the mythological swords and the AIs are to parallel, characters in both universes (European mythology and the IP universe) need to exist.

Ugh. I'll come back to you with a good example after I grab some coffee.
