Charlie, a young ship mechanic, works on the borderlands of the Scarlet Empire. From a race of people forced into exile from the Empire many years ago, he finds a living by servicing any craft he can. Money is scarce, and choice is costly.
Charlie repairs a craft that looks as though it's seen battle damage, and nothing resembling the usual armament of the local privateers.
Charlie is up to his ankles in it's guts when a team of Scarlet Screamers raid his workshop, find him repairing a known rebel vessel, judge him guilty of collaboration, and drag him off for 'questioning'.
While being taken to a Red Keep, the party is attacked, and Charlie makes a run for it, ending up with the attackers, the owners of the vessel he was repairing.
Charlie is tended to by the rebels, but doesn't want to get put into any danger. Escapes from them to go back home. His home has been destroyed by the Scarlet Screamers trying to find him and the rebels. Charlie has nothing left in his life but revenge, pledges himself to the rebels.
Rebels are looking for an old weapon, from before the Wars. Said to bring power to the one who uses it, the rebels see it as their chance to bring down the oppressive Scarlet Empire, and replace it with freedom, justice and a hard boiled egg.
The Crimson Emperor (good Lord I'm milking this 'red' thing aren't I...) also wants this power from the Last Great Empire.
This weapon is known as the Sword of Joy, and is said to bring happiness to the wielder.
Ignore the clichés, the red fetish, and the ridiculously Star Warsy nature of the above, and I reckon I'm pretty close ;)
Sonic, I know the internet has everything on it, but seriously? That's taking Rule 34 to the limit...
