The new IP could be male and female personality constantly fighting with each other (kinda like Gollum).
...do you know how hard it's going to be to get the image of ladyboy Gollum out of my head?
Oh dear gawd.

DEAR GOD.WHAT MONSTER HAVE I INSPIRED A MAN TO CREATE!!?!?!?!?!?

Anyway. I like the idea of split-gender AI, but it might be moving too far away from the core elements.

Or you could have one helpful A.I and the multi personality AI trying to hinder your progress. That would fit with the marathons core elements.

Anyone feel like taking an interpretive stab at what they think the new IP's story might follow, considering Charlemagme's story?
Perhaps it's the Battle of Roncesvalles? It's where the sword Durandal proved indestructible.

There is also this. A monastery was being pillaged by the Saxons, and Charlemagne helped Ogier the Dane rebuild it. Perhaps something around that is what we're after?

Pick nearly any of Charlemagne's many battles and you may have a possibility.

I am...whimsical today.

Charlie, a young ship mechanic, works on the borderlands of the Scarlet Empire. From a race of people forced into exile from the Empire many years ago, he finds a living by servicing any craft he can. Money is scarce, and choice is costly.
Charlie repairs a craft that looks as though it's seen battle damage, and nothing resembling the usual armament of the local privateers.
Charlie is up to his ankles in it's guts when a team of Scarlet Screamers raid his workshop, find him repairing a known rebel vessel, judge him guilty of collaboration, and drag him off for 'questioning'.
While being taken to a Red Keep, the party is attacked, and Charlie makes a run for it, ending up with the attackers, the owners of the vessel he was repairing.
Charlie is tended to by the rebels, but doesn't want to get put into any danger. Escapes from them to go back home. His home has been destroyed by the Scarlet Screamers trying to find him and the rebels. Charlie has nothing left in his life but revenge, pledges himself to the rebels.
Rebels are looking for an old weapon, from before the Wars. Said to bring power to the one who uses it, the rebels see it as their chance to bring down the oppressive Scarlet Empire, and replace it with freedom, justice and a hard boiled egg.
The Crimson Emperor (good Lord I'm milking this 'red' thing aren't I...) also wants this power from the Last Great Empire.
This weapon is known as the Sword of Joy, and is said to bring happiness to the wielder.

Ignore the clichés, the red fetish, and the ridiculously Star Warsy nature of the above, and I reckon I'm pretty close ;)

Sonic, I know the internet has everything on it, but seriously? That's taking Rule 34 to the limit...

I think the most interesting of any of them is the one depicted in The Song of Roland, which is mostly based on the Battle of Roncesvalles you mentioned.

As the Wiki states, it's a minor incident, but the poem is gigantic.

Plus it involves the number 7, Roland, and even a cliffhanger "Weary and weeping, but fully obedient to God, Charlemagne prepares for yet another bloody war."

Also, The Song of Roland summarized in about 2 minutes. Sounds like an awesome plot for a Bungie game (and of course the religious backgrounds could easily be swapped, so that's no biggy).

Well, this is one of the steamier theories I've heard so far.

Freedom has two parts: potential and resolution; as metaphors have two parts : form and interpretation; of course, the two are intertwined. Metaphor lines the road to freedom, as symbols and words are the bricks and mortar of meaning. Freedom being the briocoleus, the mason.

Interesting, I guess we'll just have to wait and see if Bungie is going to uphold this in their new ip.

On another note, I would recommend stating your thesis right off the bat and then getting immediately to your evidence as to not fall prey to the short attention spans of the average users, and also keep the additional comments after the main read at the bottom, so people can get to the meat of the theory without spending time looking for it.

Some can come away from reading "War and Peace" thinking it a simple adventure story, while others can read the ingredients on a gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.

It's a pen method, you don't need to refero nulla!

Now I've totally lost track of this thread.

I think in the story the AI paralleling Joyeuse will be captured/fall in battle/be lost, but will be recovered.
And...
Joyeuse helps you after coming to an enlightenment after captivity.

That's my two cents.
