The icon indicates whether it's a dedicated server or not.

Try making sure port 2302 and 2303 have been opened for your PC.

Something smells fishy...

If you connect to the internet using a router or DSL/Cable modem then you will probably need to forward ports.
You should go to http://portforward.com to forward the proper ports through your router or modem for Halo 1 PC.

You might also have to "allow" Halo 1 PC through your mac firewall (I have very minimal experience with Macs so don't take my work for it).
I think you can access your built in Mac firewall by: clicking on the Apple menu/system preferences/security/firewall (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8154 .html).

It would help if you specified what version of Mac OSX you are running on your Apple computer.
Example: 10.4, 10.5, 10.6.
