It's becoming more of an issue at the moment that people put links which automatically put you on the add queue for a chapter. My personal opinion of this is that it's unfair and really quite annoying. I don't mind if they clearly indicated what the link would do, but they don't do that. I know i can just leave after they accept me, but it's just unfair and well quite frankly, rude. We have no say in it.

So what i ask is, is there a way to stop these links from being posted?

No, your best bet is to keep an eye on the Status Bar if you use IE, it'll tell you what the link leads to. Other browsers have similar functions, but if you use the integrated MSN or AOL browser you're pretty boned.

Test it out with these:

An Auto Join link (Open Chapter so you can leave if you accidentally click) Hover above this paragraph and look for something in your browser that indicates the new address. In an autojoin link, the last part of the address will say "JoinGroup.aspx"

A benign link will say "GroupHome.aspx" at the end of the address.

They are technically breaking the rules anyway if you see those links anywhere but in the Classifieds.

As for a fix, Bungie could make the Join Group a java function, that wouldn't work unless you were on the homepage, but with as complicated as the rest of Bungie.net seems to be, I don't think it's something they'll necessarily work on right away.

Be ever vigilant, and simply report those that put Join links anywhere but the Classifeds.

Thank you Jim. I will look at my browser more carefuly next time :)

As for the legality of it, unfortuantly it appears in signatures and hompages most of the time so technicaly they're not breaking rules as far as i know.

It would be quite helpful if they could change it, but yes in the meantime vigilance seems to be the best weapon.

Its a sad fact that before i click on any link in these forums i always check the bottom left hand corner of firefox. So far nobody has eaten my brains or in fact any part of my body or soul.

I really think the moderators should start issuing warnings for such stuff like this. You do have free will and clicking these links undermines the option to join or not to join.

Quite right. Thank you all. One could argue that it is in violation of the human right :)
