What if you could hide in the snow? If you were playing a map like Sidewinder and snow started to accumulate, you could jump in a pile of snow for camoflauge!

the only problem would be the lag on live if their were rain effects and thunder and lightening it would slow the game down. So i say just stick to night and day cycles.

  • 07.29.2004 3:45 PM PDT

oh have an imaginaion, i mean nobody knows if their gonna do this or not

What if you could start a chain reaction using the new destructable environments? Like, you could cause an avalanche by throwing a grenade at the top of a slope or you can blow holes in the ground or in buildings and rain and snow could accumulate there.

You would not have to send the effects of Live. All of those type of effects could be done by each Xbox. The only thing that would need to be sent would be the initial choice of weather for the level.

thats complicated though. The server will still need to have the weather effects on for Xblive

Theoretically, lightning would be that hard to do. I mean, they can do flashlights. Lightning is basically like a flash light in the game engine. The only differences would be magnatude, duration, and shape. Of course, my knowledge on programming isnt very extensive.

It wouldn't be hard to do at all. Its just it may be to much for the Xbox to handle. Halo 2's graphics alone look incredible and to add more it may be to much and the Xbox may implode.

Not really except for the snow accumulation and stuff. But just raining and making your Warthog harder to drive would be brilliant.

It will be hard to get used to, but not complicated for Bungie.

I hope for three types of options for maps
* weather
* time of day
* strength gravity

And if you dont thing the xbox can handle lighting. How about just rain and snow on the ground to change the environment.

But remember, I think it was in one of Frankie's updates, MC from H2 actually is composed of fewer polygons than MC from H1! The fewer the polygons, they less lag. So in theory, they still have a lot of room. Because of bump mapping, characters and environments take require fewer polygons but still have the desired graphics.

Strength of gravity would be really cool! Good thought.

adding a stormy type weather (heavy rain, lightning etc.) would make the game a whole lot more intense and exciting and for xbl they could just make the rain be a moving scenery type thing, they wouldnt have to make it accumulate or anything. but for a system link game or just 4 people on a box i guess they could have it accumulate because there wouldnt be any lag. overall i think weather is a great idea, i would much rather play zanzibar during a thunderstorm/downpour than a sunny bright day. its just so much more badass/hardcore to play during a storm.

i think its to late. It would be awesome and more realistic. But the game is already it is just in debug mode and addign new small things maybe if u posted when they were in the middle of the Halo 2 project it could have become a reality.

Ooh. Blood Gulch in the rain. I've always wanted to see the MC in a wet t-shirt contest with an elite.

Okay, just kidding. This is probably the best idea I've seen on this forum in a while. It sounds complicated for the designers though, so you might have to wait for the next system. Yet, Bungie may surprise us. I'm not exactly their biggest fan, so I'm not too optimistic at the moment. Props if they do pull that off.

i agree that its late to post it but how awesome would it be if that was already part of the game, because its not such a far-fetched idea. i think the wizards at bungie could do it.

maybe it could be a downloadable content though. Download Zanzibar in the rain.

I think Bungie deserves some credit. Their intent is to make a game that everyone loves and to make it as fun as possible. They might have already thought of it and it could be in the game (I doubt it but it would be dang sweet and it would make me feel special) but even if its not, im sure they have plenty of other cool features that will make us drool.

If you look at my post on the first page I think Bungie has already included this. At E3 2004 there were two types of weather on Zanzibar. At the press conference and on most of the pics on this site it is grey and overcast, but during the playing as many movies from fans have shown it is bright and sunny.

They could have just not made the overcast final and so they decided on having it sunny instead.

Possibly, or it might just be the video quality. But the two videos are only 2 days apart.

They may have been testing both to see how they do. Then they might make their decision

Well, for curiosity's sake, lets say that their is no accumulation or anything, you can only choose environment. What would you want on their? I would want rain, snow, hail, sun, overcast and then you could choose the intensity of the storms 1- 10.
