Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

On the latest call to MS about H2V controls being stuttery, sporadic at high framerates, the rep acknowledged the problem and suggested I run as many programs as possible while playing the game. So I ran about 50 IE's and cranked up 16x AF and AA @ 1440x900 in a full server. I couldn't driver the frame rate down past 70, but it did help a bit! Unbelievable. He says the framerate hurting the controls is a known issue, and that it's been brought to the attention of the developers.

Did you also know that at high frame rates, your movement speed is decreased? I tried first with forced vsync, which gave 60 FPS, and watched how fast I moved. Then I started again with no vsync and saw that my movement was maybe half the speed as when vsync was on. Isn't that sweet? So, the game is pretty much unplayable for anyone with a high-end machine.

Halo 2 Vista is an epic failure. I doubt Microsoft will help you over the phone. They probably don't really care about the game. They may acknowledge the problem but they won't solve it.

You're probably right. I'm not sure why I keep on hoping, and phoning, and messing around with system settings. What really bugs me is they still sell the damn game! If it doesn't work, the honest thing to do would be to either fix or discontinue it.

By the way, sorry for making another thread. I wasn't really thinking. My bad.

Am I missing something? I can't find the Post New Thread button.

I have a technical issue I want to talk about.

Edit: oh. I see why now.

Well I guess I'll bump an old topic then.

If you just started up a forum profile, you have to wait a certain period before you can create topics. I think it's a day. There are several posts here where you could bring up your problem in the meantime.

I'm pretty sure he uses controller. Controller works fine for me too, but I don't see why I should be forced to use it.

Computer games should be compatible with mouse and keyboard. It should go without saying. Halo 2 Vista is a poorly made computer game, bottom line.

Wrong, i use the mouse with vsync on

Oh okay. Could have sworn you said before you used controller. Doesn't matter. Do you get lag when you use the mouse? I wonder if maybe my NVIDIA card is the reason for my problems... What video card do you have?

  • 02.03.2010 11:44 PM PDT

:3 I will die. :[

Mouse, keyboard and system works.Just the glitches and drama.

  • 02.04.2010 1:07 AM PDT

Yea i do used it on halo 1 pc but not halo 2 pc because i am fully aware of the strong aim assistance and bullet magnetism The developers left in the game, I am not that much of a competitive guy, i love having fun with my friends online.

And yes i used to get the screen lag when i didn't had vsync on with the mouse.

My graphics card is the ATI Visiontek HD 4850 with 1 gb of Ram

Node, since you have a 9800(i believe), you could try using Precision to down the clocks on your card instead of running 50 IEs at the same time.

  • 02.04.2010 7:27 AM PDT

That might work :P, try it out

The laggy mouse input is part of the game. All the supposed workarounds are just that- workarounds.

H2v fails hard.

Yea Nvidea cards aren't that great for gaming. Sorry for raining on parade but it's true. My desktop has one. It really isn't all that great.

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

Good point. Your nVidia card sucks, therefore, all nVidia video cards must suck.

Ah, if it were only that simple. But it's not. Certain games just run better on certain cards. The Unreal Engine 3, for example, runs much better on nVidia cards than ATi cards. Especially if the card in question supports PhysX. World of Warcraft also handles better on nVidia cards. In contrast, ATi cards seem to handle Crysis better than comparable nVidia cards.

Just because you have a 5200FX doesn't mean that all nVidia cards suck :/

On paper those cards supported DX9.0a and shaders, but yeah, they really didn't in practice.

Actually, I found a way around it. Experimenting with other games helped. I use "fps limiter" to lower frame rate to 60 FPS, with a refresh rate of 75 Hz and vsync. It works. Unforunately, I can't use the "anti-crash" at the same time. I don't know why having FPS below refresh rate works. Same with Halo PC with vsync on. Maybe my machine is a mutant.
