I dont even see why it was bothered to be made.

The confusing end of the game will never be answered and the ODST characters will never make a re-appearence.

Explain to me why this was made.

NOT flaming, just making a valid point, Discuss.

No.

It was made to make money. End of story.

The end is not confusing at all either.

It was made to give the players the feel of being an ODST by telling a great story.

Try stepping in another person's shoes.
Wait, what?
Oh, not literally, of course!

It is designed to hold us through until Halo: Reach comes out.
It was also made as a 'present' for many of the true Halo fans.

Edit: Well of course, this too.

I'm sorry, but I have the hardest time considering any of your points "valid" by any stretch of the imagination.

The end of the game is not confusing. We get to learn how exactly the UNSC knew about Truth's plans, the Ark and its precise purpose.

The use of the main ODST characters in future games or lack thereof is not, and should not be, a reason to make or not make the game, in the first place. Otherwise, no game would ever be designed.

Furthermore, the game fills the gap between the First and Second Battles of Earth, we get to play ODSTs, or any non-Spartan character in the Haloverse, for that matter, for the very first time, which provides us with a different viewpoint, different game play, and a radically different mood and ambiance to the game.

It is Halo 3 with a twist, with a story and perks that are specifically geared towards the fans of the game. The fact that you don't see a point to it doesn't mean there isn't for other players out there.

OMG imma girl stupid

i agree it seems pointless
i wish bungie would have spent those man-hours on Reach instead of ODST.
It was fun for a week, cool to get recon, and the Reach Beta wil be nice....but overall.....not worth it IMO

Well, since all the ODST characters have a low rank in the UNSC ranking system, why would they be working with master chief? But, I've heard some people talking about Buck having a role in Halo Reach. probably just rumours, but you can never know for sure!

Am I to take it that you created this thread for the sole purpose of your own confirmation bias?

Why are you not answering the posts of people who do not share your opinion and present you with their own understanding of ODST's "point"?

You do realize that half the soldiers working with the Master Chief were low ranked enlisted, right? Especially all those poorly armored and trained Marines.

ODST was just to introduce a new way of playing to the series, by being stealthy, instead of a walking tank. Not to mention the new Firefight mode.

this forum seemed pretty much dead within a month of the game coming out.

i don't think a month is very much holdover time

Well, numerous fans loved the ODST concept and said they would like to play as them. Bungie wants to make a smaller game and decides to go for the ODST route. Boom, reasoning right there.

To understand the ending you need to understand the timeframe. Since ODST is set roughly between Halo 2 and Halo 3, the ODST's would not know about the Ark. The Engineers do, so in comes Virgil, the one you find in the Superintendent. They fetch him up and take him up to an orbital platform. Johnson appears fresh from Delta Halo with knowledge about the idea of the Ark, but not what it exactly is. Virgil reveals all.

End credits commence.

Yea... I can fly..

Much of ODST's development team started work on director Peter Jackson's Halo Chronicles, during the production of Halo 3. However, the failure of the Halo film and the subsequent cancellation of Chronicles meant that a sizeable team no longer had a project. At about the same time, production for Halo: Reach began, and Bungie realized that there was a window of time for the team to create a new product,[26] what producer Curtis Creamer described as a two-to-three-hour "mini-campaign".[27] After looking at the proposal and the budget, studio head Harold Ryan gave the go-ahead.

Lifted straight from Wikipedia, and for those of you who call bullcrap, the information is in a Vidoc or info-vid from Bungie, cannot remember which. That is the reason Why ODST was made. And also ODSTs were only decided on after lengthy discussions as to what to include in the game, as fans had "been clamouring for it" (The Battle for Earth). That is all.

It all comes down to whether or not you like halo because of the games or because of the story behind the games (or both)..I for one am a massive fan of the story and the games, so when I play the games I like to see that they correlate with the Halo timeline, which ODST did with style. Fingers crossed Reach does the same.

I didn't know this, it's cool that they did that instead of just sitting on thier thumbs waiting for the Halo movie production to kick off again..thanks for the info :)

Okay. Even though you didn't address any of my posts, I think you just answered my question. /thread

mongooses are the best. Remember that.

Do you like to forge? Want a place to share your maps? Want to join a friendly forging group? Plasmic Forgers

In my opinion, the story was great, fire fight was fun, but it all got too boring too quick, the only main purpose it will have now is when the Reach beta comes out.

Hello! I'm a male!

It was made so Micro$oft could milk the mony out of people and get $60 for the Mythic II map pack before they released it onto the marketplace.

Lots of haters in this thread. :-/ The story works, the gameplay works, the environment works. H3:ODST is a damn fun game, and it's cool to see how things progressed after Regret's jump...especially not as a Spartan.

Buck and possibly Dare might make an apperance in Halo: Reach. Bungie absolutely loves Nathan Fillion.

And the confusing end of the game was Truth finding the portal to the Ark. You know, the one you see him escape into during H3?

And it was made for money, but also to give the players another game to play if they wanted to.
