It was made to explain what was happening on Earth, while Master Chief was fighting on Halo in Halo 2.

Go look at the post "Little did you know, you all just played through an epic poem, hah!" It explains the story and such a big connection

I dont even see why it was bothered to be made.

The confusing end of the game will never be answered and the ODST characters will never make a re-appearence.

Explain to me why this was made.

NOT flaming, just making a valid point, Discuss.

Someone had the game muted at all the important parts.....

"Life to you stepson and everlasting glory. " Thifes World.

ODST's were introduced in Halo 2 giveing us a glimpse at a diffrent kind of marine on The DELTA 4 ring. In Halo 3 they did go with the MC to assist with the ARC. ODST was Made for Many Halo Fans Like me who loved the Epic storytelling and game play in All the HALO's. I Just wish thare was a bit more on the Campain side in ODST.ODST wasnt confuseing at all at the end. Pick up all three Halos. The Games all tie togeather with ODST. Some Perchased ODST for the HALO 3 Disk, For Multiplayer Content. The End.

The purpose of ODST, besides bridging halo 2 and 3 together was to show what the war was like for a soldier on the ground, not just some metal god. This game shows how the fight felt to the people who did most of the fighting and dying in the war.

^^^^ delta halo was the ring in halo 2, just sayin, apart from that good point

There was nothing confusing about the end and Bungie has pretty much confirmed that Buck will appear in Reach

  • 02.04.2010 7:33 PM PDT

dont ask about my email name i made it when i was like 11, thinking about changing it.

to bridge halo 2 and 3 together.

again people fail to think, odst was a expansion to the halo franchise. also bungie used this to release a halo 3 disk with the 3 new maps, not to mention to finally make recon availible to the public, why? cause do you find it fun to be spammed everyday by 12 year olds saying "can i haz reconz?11!".

i found odst enjoyable and its pretty damn ggood for a expansion game. bungie made it in a year its not gonna be perfect.

It's a good thing I'm a pokemon trainer, and can handle your Jiggly-Puffs.

I don't know. I thought ODST was meh at best. It just wasn't good. Microsoft just wants to milk the Halo series for all it's worth.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

What do you mean? The ending wasn't confusing in the slightest.

The Covenant were digging up the portal to the Ark. The Engineer was not 100% sure what it was, but told the UNSC that it was the Ark itself.

Boom, that is how the UNSC gets in their minds that the Ark must be on Earth.

ok the people that play the games and look at them as just games tend to get on my nerves... judging the games seperately is not whats supposed to be done as they all correlate into one story, much like a series of books. So in separating them and saying "halo 3, or ODST sucks" your looking at them as being their own stories which infact they are not, they are one story spanning (in the near future) a total of 6 games starting with Halo Wars and ending with Halo 3. Also thrown in here are the Halo novels of which there are 6 as well and also tie into the story. I'm sorry for my ranting, But the question of What the games purpose was had been answered many posts ago and this was just something I felt need be said. But this is what separates true Halo fans and the others...

It is designed to hold us through until Halo: Reach comes out.
It was also made as a 'present' for many of the true Halo fans.

Edit: Well of course, this too.

It was made to make money.

This. And it was a way to make people have to pay to play the Reach Beta

Much of ODST's development team started work on director Peter Jackson's Halo Chronicles, during the production of Halo 3. However, the failure of the Halo film and the subsequent cancellation of Chronicles meant that a sizeable team no longer had a project. At about the same time, production for Halo: Reach began, and Bungie realized that there was a window of time for the team to create a new product,[26] what producer Curtis Creamer described as a two-to-three-hour "mini-campaign".[27] After looking at the proposal and the budget, studio head Harold Ryan gave the go-ahead.

Lifted straight from Wikipedia,

Sorry i just read that much and just moved on.

Is it worth the pain, is it worth dying for?

What's with all the criticism on ODST? I think it was a great game! It really showed an intresting aspect of the Halo Universe, especially by bringing in the Huragok.

I'm not at all disappointed with purchasing the disk. I enjoyed Sadie's story, Dare is hot, Firefight is still pretty cool (not as cool as it was at first but it's okay) not to mention the Reach Beta.

Trust me my friend, We're a LONG way from fully getting our moneys worth. The time will come.

Thats all.

Agreed

but you all KNEW what the content of the game was so you can't complain. to me the beta and firefight along with the slightly different approach to campaign made it a worthy buy.

  • 02.05.2010 3:07 PM PDT

I agree the game lost its luster rather quickly, but it's fun to pick up every once in awhile. You don't really need to know the story to get full enjoyment from the Halo universe, as it's really just filler between Halo 2 and 3 without much substance other than what pertains to the ODST squad themselves, which in the thick of things doesn't really matter to understand the Halo story.

"Everyone is capable of doing extraordinary things, each in his own way. Some are perfectly happy doing simple things in good spirits, others, however, concentrate on details. We are all different, and it really doesn't matter if you focus on space travel or work in the fields. What is important is to do what you really want."
-Alexander Kemurdzhian

I think ODST is pretty badass... But that's just my opinion. I was not dissapointed in any shape, way or form by it.

  • 02.05.2010 6:35 PM PDT

The point of ODST was to see how Humans were defending Earth, before and after truth arrives.

Peter Jackson was making a Halo related project called Halo: Chronicles. I can assume by the name that this is either an assortment of short stories, or an assortment of CHARACTER's stories.... supposedly about a squad of ODSTs.

The project was canned, and bungie thought it would be cool to make a little expansion about these characters, so they did. They got a little too much into re\searching though, and ended up putting more work into it than intended, resultin in Microsoft eventually catching word and wanting to bump the price up.
Bungie, in no position to protest, threw in the Multyplayer disc and Reach beta as an attempt to balance the cost out.

Don't anyone say Bungie's selling out. Microsoft got most of that money.
