Subject: Microsoft discontinuing Xbox Live on original Xbox

Does anyone even read these?

The original Xbox console and original Xbox games will no longer be able to access Xbox Live. This means from April 15 this year, Halo 2 online will be no more.

I wish Halo 2 a good farewell.

WTF. Why? This angers me so much...about to just sell all my Xbox stuff. Now Halo 2 will only be in my memories...

One game I'm not joking a little like 7 year old said and I quote " tell me what your dick looks like so I can imagine it in my head and beat off to it"

If Team Swat became ranked, would there still be no shields?

Amazing!

Very dumb indeed.

There are benefits from it of course, such as a bigger friends list (maybe) as well as more flexibility for future games and Xbox Live update. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but I will definitely miss Halo 2.

Hopefully Bungie will release Halo 2 on the arcade or something...god I hope so.

  • 02.05.2010 12:49 AM PDT

Wow, 2 months, what will happen here in this forum? I have a few friends here and we're not going to talk about Scarab guns forever. Damn!

Spartans are from Venus and Elites are from Uranus

Yeah, this sucks. I wouldn't mind if Micosoft pulls a God of War and rereleases Halo 1 and 2 with HD graphics and stuff. Include all the map packs and give Halo 1 all those maps from the PC version. That would be epic and I would completely forgive them for taking down the Halo 2 servers.

Hopefully in memory of Halo 2 we get a post carnage report. How many matches of Halo 2 have been played, how many kills, who played the most, so on and so forth.

And the Shadow fell upon the Land, and the World was riven stone from stone. The oceans fled, and the mountains were swallowed up, and the nations were scattered to the eight corners of the World. The moon was blood, and the sun was as ashes. The seas boiled, and the living envied the dead. All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

Awww. I need to play some Halo 2 online then! Haven't done that in ages.

That honestly blows. I'm like a bunch of other players, still playing the game. This sucks.

What a bunch of crap.

It would appear that Microsoft have already removed original Xbox game DLC from their servers.

Upon trying to download the Halo 2 map packs I am greeted with "Could not download content lists. Please try again later." I also got the same message when attempting to download DLC from another original Xbox game.

This is unfair as I would like to experience Halo 2 on XBL one last time.

Of course, this could be a temporary glitch or server maintenance.

Is anyone else getting this?

What the hell, man. I haven't played Halo 2 in a while, but THOUSANDS still do. Literally thousands - look at the Halo 2 page, 3,601 people have played in the last 24 hours ALONE.

Depressing news is depressing. :( Xbox Connect just isn't the same - but Halo 2 Vista's community might get a boost from this.

Ostrich I really wanna sig you, but need some fresh stuffs.
So make with the funneh.

Bitch don't tell me what to do.

I'm pretty mad over this. Just bought Halo 2 again YESTERDAY so I could go back and play some of the MP that got me hooked on Halo in the first place. Then I go on Kotaku and I read that I have only limited time left.

I spent way too much time playing Halo 2 online and it is going to be really sad to see it go away.

  • 02.05.2010 7:09 AM PDT

That kinda sucks. There are other ways to play though. There is always LAN parties, and xbox connect.

If so, then I really lucked out. When I swapped HDD's, it conveniently corrupted all my Halo 2 map pack data, so I fought with it to redownload a few weeks ago.

This is a low move on Microsoft's part. Wasn't the whole idea of paying for Live to allow us to play old games forever?

Words don't describe the memories I've had on this title over the past roughly half decade... not just this game, but loads of others as well. I'll tip my hat to just that said fact any day. I'm sad to see the service go, I don't want to see it go, but so be it if it's in the best interest of future engagements for the Xbox LIVE community.

Good game. The match was definitely fun.

Plekpedia - The most epic site in the history of ever.

I'm speechless.

I've read it :'(

I know I haven't played it that much with this account, but I used to play it with my old account from my Xbox which I somehow couldn't recover to my 360 :S
