Subject: Alternate For Live when H2 Closes

Well ever since this morning when i woke up and saw the sad news about H2 let alone all original xbox games were getting dropped from live i didnt want anyone to be left out in case they cant get a 360 or just love playin original games online still
I'd suggest the sooner you try to get this setup the more prepared you are for the future even if you wont use XBC til april 16th, Please forward this thread to anyone even copy and paste this to other forums if necessary- Im postin this on MLG myself today as well so no need there
WARNING ALL PROBLEMS AND HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT ARE AT THE BOTTOM
Faq:
What is Xbox connect?
Xbox connect is a online LAN system that allows you to System link through the internet for free

Is it as good as Xbox live?
No, but in some ways it excels in other ways like its faster to find a game, And if your playing a original Xbox then you kinda have no choice of another online service aside from Xlink Kai which sucks

What are the requirements for XBC?
An xbox, halo 2, a PC that is Capable of running XBC and the xbox and pc must be on the same network.

Now First thing is first...make sure you understand that XBC is legal to use as long as you use the free version...DO NOT TRY TO PIRATE THE PRO VERSION if your gonna use it ...use it legally and use the free version.

Ok step 1.
Make sure your PC and xbox are Connected on the samerouter/Ethernethub
it should look something like this

Step 2 Download the free XBC Version- Please Read and understand the XBC disclaimer-
Heres the site with the Link
http://www.xbconnect...topic=downloads

Step 3
install the game and create a login name with passsword

Step 4
Detect your console by trying to join a server ....and then from there Plug in your mic and Join in through system Link

Support problems...
sometimes Programs like XBC require Administrator status on windows vista so please right click on your XBC desktop icon and run as an Administrator
Also Programs may need access by your firewall -Warning if your to worried about your firewall then -
you will need to go to your firewall options from your control panel and allow access for XBC. You may also want to forward ports so you can get XBC to work please use www.portforward.com for further details on forwarding ports

Windows Vista and Windows 7 Problems-Since Windows vista and Windows 7 have a different way of network configuring than XP microsoft doesnt have NPPTools.DLL come standard with it anymore so you have to download the .DLL file
From- http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?npptools
and just open the archive and drag and drop the .DLL file to this directory
C:\Windows\System32

if none work please try http://www.xbconnect....php?topic=help for further details

I came to this forum to suggest this, but I'm glad you beat me to it with such an informative post.

Meh. I tried Xbox Connect a few times, and the games were laggy as hell. It's unplayable.

Halo 2 Vista, however, is a good alternative - plugging a 360 controller into the PC makes it almost the exact same, except with more maps. I hope people migrate there.

I've been playing Halo 2 Vista myself recently. The amount of people online at any given time is pretty disappointing. Even peek hours there are few near full games. Hopefully we get Halo 2 refugees that migrate to the vista version, enlargining the Halo 2 vista playerbase.

You just have to find the right rooms. I've played more XBC games than Live, and when you find the right rooms, game types, and people, it's a blast.

Bad M$. Bad. I will be buying Halo 2 Vista without a doubt now. I would rather have Halo 2 then have more friends on a friends list
