Forgive me for not being 'oh lets get nostalgic!', I thought the fact thousands of people still playing this game, suddenly being told 'NOPE' to a service they've paid money for, might be the more pressing issue.

This. Although I realise the decision isn't in Bungies hands.

My main problem is with regards to maps. I've loved the likes of Headlong, Coagulation, Waterworks, and Terminal over the past couple of years but Halo 2 is the only game I can play them on. Bungie obviously aren't going to remake these for Halo 3, but then we don't know what's in store for Reach. Fingers crossed, eh?

Although out of curiosity, will the Halo 2 game stats remain on Bungie.net after Halo 2 is shut down?

After over five years, the sunny shores of Relic, the snowy heights of Lockout, the vibrant corridors of Midship; all will fall silent. The legacy will live on, only in fond memories! Wouldn't miss the last day for the world!! Represent April 14th!

...or is it because the XBL community thinks the 100 friends cap needs to be raised.

I don't know about you guys but I need more room for all my friends, and their expired one months, and randoms that I never plan on playing with again. This isn't facebook your not proving how popular you are by pretending how many people know you.

You don't need more than 100 friends, i don't need more than 100 friends but the COD Zombies need more than a million friends for all there "clans" and to add everyone that has ever beaten them and call them an amazing player because they cant accept that they lost. About half of Xbox live does nothing but play modern warfare anymore, its crazy and its because of them that they are cutting off xbox live classics to give them more space for their "friends" and "clans"

Couldn't Bungie do an update to halo 2 the day before the shutdown to redirect the games online to a private server that doesnt work through xbox live? i mean even if they added a small subscription fee, it would be worth it, I'm lucky enough to own a PC capable of running halo 2 vista, but most people would definitely keep playing

Nevertheless, if Bungie or Microsoft doesn't do anything to keep halo 2 live going, I'd give it a year before someone mods there xbox to go though custom online servers...*

Edit: Whats with all the hate for H2v anyway? sure graphically and sound wise nothings changed but for some reason it requires a computer that's madly superior to the xbox, but other than that its just halo 2 with achievement support and custom map support...

I bet it will be longer than a day. I notice more people playing even now.

I think it sucks that they are shutting it down, but at least it was fun while it lasted. Now I have something to look forward to in a couple months, a day where it won't be any problem finding matches in Halo 2.

What if you miss? I won't.

I agree, Halo 2 is much better than Halo 3. Halo 3 is honestly the worst of the 3 Halos. They screwed Halo 3 up by changing the shields, the weapons, and everything else that made Halo 2 the best game in the trilogy. I still play Halo 2 on various accounts and have been convincing people from Halo 3 to come back and play it too. It's a shame that they're shutting it down.

風 Swift as the wind
林 Quiet as the forest
火 Conquer like the fire
山 Steady as the mountain

So Microsoft finally decides to kill Halo 2(the best of the series hands down) in order to make room for more stupid -blam!- on NXE that no one really gives a damn about big -blam!- surprise. Well at least Halo 2 had a great run and will always be remembered as the best of the series, unlike other projects (ODST).

~Long Live Halo 2
Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

Wait, so we can't play Halo 2 campaign offline or Halo CE offline?

alas

  • 02.24.2010 1:50 PM PDT

Can we play customs still over XBL? It shouldn't need Microsoft Servers, or will that be cut?

  • 02.24.2010 2:20 PM PDT

:O omg how do we finish all the online achievements then?

  • 02.25.2010 12:53 AM PDT

So that's how it is. You all ought to know better than that.

It had a good run. Lets send Halo 2 off with a bang...

and 100 million kills.

man, all this time, i wish i had had the patience to find the problem of why it wouldnt let me play H2 on live, now i have a little more than a month to figure it out and play, i hope i dont miss this, this will be an epic time

  • 03.02.2010 1:48 PM PDT

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO halo 2 is by far the best multiplayer, it has so much more skill than halo 3 and by the way thank god HITSCAN is back in Reach.

  • 03.02.2010 7:31 PM PDT

Well, I'm going to try to be on the 14th, and even the 15th and fight for my right to play (yes, I know people will look at my stats and see I played only 1 game...ONLINE I might add, as I bought a used original Xbox when the 360 came out just to play Halo 1+2 with friends), but I haven't seen this addressed yet: Will the map packs still be available for download afterward? I mean, the servers are definitely being axed, but what happens if my files get corrupted, heaven forbid? The Multiplayer Disc sold for Halo 2 lacked some of the packs if memory serves, and I don't want to either pray my hard drive never craps out or by a backup one "just in case"... Heck, I'd even buy a disc from Bungie (similar to the original Halo 2 disc or ODST's Halo 3 disc) with all of them on it just to have a backup, just don't make me lose my maps! I play Halo 2 and 3 all the time with friends, and losing my favorite maps [excuse me, I'm going to sound rude whether or not I try to] is not a option. Please, someone, get back to me and let me know about the situation?

  • 03.04.2010 12:30 PM PDT

I will be there from now until the end.
April 15th will be a day that will live in infamy.
Lets send her out with a bang.

  • 03.04.2010 12:56 PM PDT

Ya'll can really still play h2 online for free...it's called XBConnect...

  • 03.04.2010 1:35 PM PDT

RIP halo 2 I honestly think halo 2 is better then halo3 odst and almost better then halo 3 ecspecially the multiplayer maps on halo2 some of them were the best
