Thinking with Portals since '07

Battlefield 3 sucks.

hey, people are saying that if you played halo 2 online, you will get a little badge on your service record on halo reach when it comes out, is this true?

I officially hate Microsoft for shutting down the game that made their console. I have been playing Halo 2 online since 2004... This sucks. Well I guess I can always hope that they will maybe possibly one day sale the Halo 2 multiplayer on the marketplace with xbox 360 NXE support. Then we can listen to music stay in chat ECT while playing the best game to ever come out of any dev team. Although I doubt it will happen, I guess I can always hope it will.... I would buy it if they did release it on the marketplace.

A sad day is right! So many memories played on this game. My final year of college was a blur mixed in with the introduction of halo 2 on xbox live. made me instantaneously trade in my ps2 for Master Chief himself. lets just say I played a lot along with roommates. so many 4 screen spitscreen on the old 27" tv. Even when halo 3 came out there was still a weekend for halo 2 with the guys. I still play everynow and then so for now until the end i'll be with halo 2. I'm just hoping its on the xbox live classics like in halo 1 and with a all new server to play online!!

check out my halo armor!

This really kills me. I was thinking about how I would still be playing Halo 2 as a grandpa (22 now). I jumped into some matches a few days ago and man do I miss Halo 2. Don't get me wrong, I love Halo 3 but Halo 2 plays a lot better in my opinion. My BR doesn't feel like it's shooting paintballs, and I can actually do damage to people across map. Oh well I guess there is always xb connect.

I'm truly going to miss H2. This game was what made most of us into gamers. H2 is the founding father of xbox live and the savior of the Xbox. Without halo, Microsoft probably would have dropped the xbox all together and MLG may have never even existed Yet, Microsoft got lucky and Bungie published a game which would revolutionize competitive gaming. I'll miss the unique game play, I'll miss the glitches, I'll miss the clutch moments, and I will miss those garage lans with my friends back in high school. H3 is a good game but H2 has something that it doesn't. I remember watching MLG back in the H2 days and being on the edge of my seat while watching Shockwave quad-shot Walshy with no shield on P2 and hear the crowd go completely nuts. Sadly, Watching H3 MLG is almost boring. The crowd doesn't seem as focused on the match anymore. There were no dull moments in H2. At any second one quick BXR or one well placed double shot could turn the tide of a match. That is what binded people to it and made it so addicting. Everyone could contest that Halo 2 wasn't just another video game. It created a thriving community, completely reforged the video gaming industry, inspired millions, and brought with it friendships that all of us will carry on for years to come. I will really miss Halo 2 and everything that it brought with it.

Using only a hoe and a large glass of water, I once single-handedly defended a small village in the Amazon from a horde of ferocious army ants. I have been known to remodel train stations on my lunch breaks, making them more efficient in the area of heat retention. I translate ethnic slurs for Cuban refugees and manage time efficiently. I woo women with my sensuous and godlike trombone playing, I bake Thirty Minute Brownies in twenty minutes. I am a veteran in love, and an outlaw in Peru.

I'll be there.

If that's true, I must buy my copy of H2 right away! I'm missing a ultra-mega-huge part of the gaming history, if I don't play H2 at LIVE! Everyone must play this, before it's too late. Hopely Bungie could make some events, but I don't think so.

"I am the Walrus." (:3=)

I WILL TAKE PART IN THIS MOST NOBLE UNDERTAKING AND HELP SHOW THE WORLD THAT AS A FAN BASE, WE WILL NOT BE CRYING SILENTLY OVER SOMETHING THAT WE CAN NOT CONTROL! WE WILL PLAY OUR HEARTS OUT TO THE VERY END AND EMBRACE ONE ANOTHER ON THE DYING BATTLEFIELDS OF HALO 2! WE WILL SHOW THEM ALL THAT JUST BECAUSE SOMETHING IS ENDING THAT IT CAN STILL GET THE LOVE, DEDICATION, AND BROTHERHOOD THAT WILL COME WITH THIS EPIC SEND OFF! MAY BUNGIE BE WITH US, AND MAY THE NUBER SEVEN GUIDE OUR SOULS THROUGH THIS FINAL CLIMAX OF ACTION BEFORE ALL LIFE IS SUDDENLY SNUFFED FROM THE HEART OF HALO 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok, can someone please post a link to the news about the prize?
also, if there is a mini emblem next to your name on reach if you play halo 2 online, does it have to be matchmaking or can it be a custom game?

halo 2 still the best game in the series. long live halo 2.

Dam, I miss the old days playing halo 2 with my old brothers in arms. Thank you my old friends for giving me this account, I shall continue our legacy.

I find it funny that halo 2 is shutting down on tax day. The day we Americans are supposed to file their taxes by. Odd day for Microsoft to choose that day to shut down live support for original xbox games.

  • 03.14.2010 4:37 PM PDT

It's sad, to see such a great game go.

Let it go down in glory.

Haha wow what a funny coincidence.

I'm pretty bummed about Halo2 being cut off like that. I was hoping there would be more remakes of the old sk00l Halo 2 maps in Halo 3. But alas, you can't ask for too much huh?

Man, hard to believe this game is going to be Shut down on April 15. This was one of the best games In history of Xbox. It had the funnest Gameplay, Campaign, Multiplayer, maps, glitches, and many other things that were fun. This game got me back into Shooting games. Plus, I remember the old times when me and my family use to play this game, on Splitscreen, all the time, while me and my Dad, and my older brother, use to play CO-OP campaign on Halo 2. This game is a Classic and I'll be on April 14th, the day when Halo 2 online ended, along with all the Xbox Originals.

Oh, Guys! I just realise that at April 15th, you won't be able to play your Original Xbox games on your Xbox 360 anymore, which is Bullcrap. Heres the link. It has something to do with the features later on in the future. I just hope they, atleast, make some of the Originals as Arcade games so that we could play them.

This is a Sad day for all games.

"I wanted to let you know that on April 15, 2010 Microsoft will discontinue Xbox LIVE service for original Xbox consoles and games, including Xbox 1 games [that are] playable on Xbox 360."
-Major Nelson
From my understanding of the situation, you're misinterpreting the highlighted text. We'll still be able to play original console games that are backwards compatible on the Xbox 360, the only major change being made is a discontinuation of the Xbox LIVE service on those games.

They are only shutting down multiplayer on Xbox and Xbox 360 for Halo 2. But I swear, Microsoft WILL burn in hell for this. It would have been so simple to keep original xbox up and running, but NO, they have to shut it down for I beat some stupid friends list update that nobody cares about. God Microsoft makes dumb ass moves a lot, don't they?

Sketch , Just wondering.

Say an application is floating about that allows users to connect through LAN/System link connections making it somewhat similar to joining an Xbox Live Custom game , and basically allowing the online part of the game to barley cling to life , Would that be acceptable or would it be "taken care of"?

I am a "True" gamer advocate.
Halo 2
People are crazy, and times are strange...

See everyone April 14...
All my good XBL friends were founded on this game. It is indeed surreal and frustrating to see such a monolithic game come to an end. Even if this change in landscape is not too sudden, I will never forget the times I had with this game... Staying up late, customs that will never be duplicated, rank resets, clans, etc.
To me this game is the foundation of the Xbox live we know today; In the years to come if I don't see a tribute to this game, it would be a shun to the originals. When Microsoft asks themselves "why Xbox Live is the number one online service for consoles", I do hope their number one reason is Halo 2.
