add a horn that says "!%*@ BILL O' REILLY" in Austin Powers' voice, and
I like how if anyone ever says a nice thing about Bungie people think all they want is Recon, and if someone says something bad about Bungie people join with them. And then after they get done bagging on Bungie, they go play the game that Bungie made
I'm sorry, but you're not looking at this from their point of view. They need to make money. You may say that's greedy, but they have to go to the stockholders and explain. Halo 2 is netting less money than it is costing. That just isn't smart.
Further, the OXBL means that upgrading XBL is more difficult. Halo 3 will be better when Halo 2 is canceled. XBL subscriptions will be cheaper and we will have more than 100 people on our friends lists. Microsoft doesn't get up in the morning with hopes of making customers sad. That isn't smart either. Microsoft believes that this will allow them to do more for their customers by reorganizing resources.
Microsoft isn't hated for making silly decisions. Microsoft is hated for having the balls to do the smart thing and take the blame for it. You don't stay on top by giving away your services for free. Just feel good that it went on for this long. They funded Bungie and did what any publisher would do.
Halo would not be great without Microsoft. It would have been another Apple game that, while fun, wouldn't have attracted enough fans to make Bungie a big player. The fans are half the fun. Microsoft is the parent that has to make the tough decisions.

That should put things in perspective. Halo 2 is fun, but is holding back progress for the millions of players that don't play it anymore. How is that justified? Sorry, other players, a few thousand people are demanding that your experience is watered down so they can play an old game.
When DO they pull the plug? Ten players? Two players? This is copied from April 11th! This is a day when Halo 2 is getting a "big send off"! It had even fewer players when Microsoft decided to end it. All great things must come to an end. Half of the people that are complaining didn't even talk about Halo 2 until this was announced! Suddenly, you still want it. Get over it.
