I wonder if a worldwide protest would change Microsoft's mind. If they do go through with this everyone should just stop buying xbox 360s and xbox 360 accessories in an attempt to save Halo 2. If we can get people to stop buying xbox live and things of that nature maybe we can convince bungie how important it is to have xbl for all the old games that made xbox live wut it is today, especially Halo 2. Halo 1 and 2 is wut started the xbox live craze. That's the only reason i got xbox live in the first place. IF BUNGIE DOES GO THROUGH WITH THIS THEY WILL REGRET IT.

I'm going to miss Halo 2. Still got split screen and system link though. I wish it would stay. Just this game.

It will be a bitter sweet day... It was my first multiplayer online game that I played and I will sadly miss it:(

I dont know if anyone else said this but is there anyway halo 2 could be remade as a LIVE compatible game (as in not original xbox) like any other xbox 360 game? That would save a really great game.

  • 04.07.2010 4:31 PM PDT

U bought the Metal Limited Edition when it came out played it forever on my original xbox so much that the disc wore down and wouldn't play. I put it in a couple of days ago and it works!!! Too bad it is at the end, i prolly won't get the 400 ms point :(.

  • 04.07.2010 5:38 PM PDT

death....hurts dont it?

a halo 2 map pack playlist for halo 3 would be awesome. i'd pay 800 mspoints for that.

death....hurts dont it?

this is also to force the xbox 1 users (how little left) to buy the 360. the major thing the original xbox has over the 360 is how much of a beast it is and how much more reliable it is than the 360. how many of us have had to ship our 360s back cuz of stupid defects it has? ive had 3 red rings since 07. I got an original xbox when they were launched and never had one problem with it.

I remember playing with my brothers on the same screen.

I can't wait until April 14th when it is really easy to find a game in Halo 2.

  • 04.09.2010 6:06 AM PDT

Pozza Theoneandonly

what are you talking about douche i played halo 2 for two years and no-one glitched but that was in 'slayer pro' maybe you never heard of that you -blam!- halo 2 was the best.

  • 04.09.2010 8:23 AM PDT

Does this mean I can't update Halo 2 or download its maps anymore if I happen to get a new hard drive or mine breaks? It would suck REALLY bad if that happened... I don't see why they can't do this. Can anyone confirm this?

BTW I will miss Halo 2 ALOT but at least I still have friends to play system link with and I have H2V so its k. I'll be on LIVE playing up until the switch is flipped ='( this is sad

  • 04.09.2010 11:58 PM PDT

you should be able to get the maps im guessing solo, even after they close the matchmaking...

even if you cannot download them though there is the disc they sold back after the maps came out with all all the DLC (or at least most of it) for people who didnt have LIVE. if i remember right it came out before the last 2 maps were released so those 2 maps could be lost forever i suppose :(

you can buy the multiplayer map pack disc pretty cheap still online

I just sent my 360 back to MS again today for a repair for the second time. so i will be hooking up the OG xbox to LIVE and playing Halo 2 for its remaining days... I hope there is enough people playing on the 14th to get into a big team battle game again!!

"May the Shadows sweep your existence into the Darkness."

I'll be right there with the rest of you playing until the service disconnects me. It is a shame to see a beloved game's online experience end like this, but I have to agree it is better that it goes now while the community that so strongly supported it is still around. I'm loading up the map packs on my 360 and probably will shove aside all other games for awhile. Let's send our old friend out with a bang, shall we?

add a horn that says "!%*@ BILL O' REILLY" in Austin Powers' voice, and
I like how if anyone ever says a nice thing about Bungie people think all they want is Recon, and if someone says something bad about Bungie people join with them. And then after they get done bagging on Bungie, they go play the game that Bungie made

I'm sorry, but you're not looking at this from their point of view. They need to make money. You may say that's greedy, but they have to go to the stockholders and explain. Halo 2 is netting less money than it is costing. That just isn't smart.

Further, the OXBL means that upgrading XBL is more difficult. Halo 3 will be better when Halo 2 is canceled. XBL subscriptions will be cheaper and we will have more than 100 people on our friends lists. Microsoft doesn't get up in the morning with hopes of making customers sad. That isn't smart either. Microsoft believes that this will allow them to do more for their customers by reorganizing resources.

Microsoft isn't hated for making silly decisions. Microsoft is hated for having the balls to do the smart thing and take the blame for it. You don't stay on top by giving away your services for free. Just feel good that it went on for this long. They funded Bungie and did what any publisher would do.

Halo would not be great without Microsoft. It would have been another Apple game that, while fun, wouldn't have attracted enough fans to make Bungie a big player. The fans are half the fun. Microsoft is the parent that has to make the tough decisions.

That should put things in perspective. Halo 2 is fun, but is holding back progress for the millions of players that don't play it anymore. How is that justified? Sorry, other players, a few thousand people are demanding that your experience is watered down so they can play an old game.

When DO they pull the plug? Ten players? Two players? This is copied from April 11th! This is a day when Halo 2 is getting a "big send off"! It had even fewer players when Microsoft decided to end it. All great things must come to an end. Half of the people that are complaining didn't even talk about Halo 2 until this was announced! Suddenly, you still want it. Get over it.

I agree with most of what your saying ZEvON; however, the part about XBL subscriptions being cheaper... highly doubtful

All i have heard is that the prices to subscriptions will be going up if anything, they are saying up to $100 USD a year soon. don't know if that will happen, but i think the price has a better chance going up rather than down. if you really know they are going down i would like to know cause that would be really nice and make customers happy im sure. where did you get your information?

no matter what Halo 2 will come to an end and most do need to stop complaining because it was bound to happen someday and there is deffinatly reason behind doing so. there were barely enough players to find a game after players switched over to Halo 3. so unless you were actually playing H2 often in the last year, dont complain because you were killing off H2 as much as anyone by not supporting it. most of the reason is because of money issues though, and i doubt that they will be making to many signifigant upgrades to XBL. They just want to sell more 360s.

its always about the money....

Everyone is entitled to their own wrong opinion.

I'm part of the Bungie.net Minecraft group/server called SeptaCrafters
We're a Bungie.net group that goes to our very own Bungie server. Most players are from the Halo community either off Bungie itself or through word to Halo friends.

When is the exact time when it shuts down? I assume its pacific time being that's where MS is located

Pioneer and Enthusiast for Halo 3.

I seriously think that they know they are going to regret it. Its the greatest game ever next to Halo CE.

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

why sketch why would they do this to halo 2
