Wow, come on bungie.

  • 02.07.2010 1:02 PM PDT

Does this affect Halo 2 on Windows Live?

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

h2pc is not affected nor is halo 1.

What are you doing when someone is not looking?

"If not, one consequence could be a huge spike in the gray market value of the game's Multiplayer Map Pack. Forum posters already are talking about trying to find one at game retailers. Although three maps were released after that disc, so it's unclear if getting that disc would solve the Halo 2 problem." (Taken from Kotaku.com)

I have the disc and it is STILL a problem. I erased all the maps, reloaded with this disc and still issues.............arg!

Why doesn't Bungie just make a Halo Compilation for Xbox 360 (like what Sony did with God Of War, or Nintendo with Metroid)?
It would make us happy, it'd probably sell very well, and most importantly, it'd have Live support after MS cuts off original Xbox support.

If you have any interest in machinima production, PM me!
"Whooo! "

That sounds like a good idea.

This news is pretty depressing :/

It would suck if it ran on the halo 3 or reach engine though.

farewell h2

This is complete bull-blam!-. I really am disappointed and disgusted by this news. Especially after reading some of those links where they fail and outright deny shutting this or that down in August but are doing so now.

The "updates" will probably be more useless -blam!- that doesn't belong on my -blam!- game console. I didn't buy a Xbox to be a facebook -blam!- or twitter or any of that other bs. I bought it to play games. -blam!- these updates. I've hated most of them but it was fine before because I could still play any game I wanted. Now, it's not so fine.

Hey guys, everyone just needs to call 1-800-4MY-XBOX If enough people call they're bound to notice, I'm NOT content with ten weeks, screw that, I say never take it away !!

  • 02.07.2010 10:01 PM PDT

i don't mean to sound horrible, i'm sure you all love Halo 2, but there's been three more Halo games since that was released. get over it and move on.

Wow. Clearly, you never experienced Halo 2 because that statement is just ignorant. But I don't want to start a fight here.

This is a very smart decision by Microsoft. Yes Halo 2 was a great game, but it's been going for 5 years. Let it go. Plus this reopens the 360 realm for a game that'll blow that stupid MAG out of the water.

  • 02.08.2010 4:55 AM PDT

I am saddened by this news because it means we have no choice but to put up with the cr@p load of s**t multiplayer that halo3 is.

Halo 2 FTW - you were the best multiplayer ever!

aha I know ! I'm not going to put up with that -blam!- though, the only reason I could stand it is because I could go back to halo 2 anytime I wanted, because it was always amazing. Screw reach I'm not buying the game if they're taking away my options to play what I want. It's stupid. I've supported both bungie and microsoft by buying games, bungie pro, xbl subscriptions and no I'm getting fcked in the ass by MS. amazing

E4web

Damn.

I'm no network engineer, but I'm pretty sure XBox LIVE gaming is predominately P2P, so what gives? Yes, save for a few oddballs like Delta Force: Blackhawk Down using dedicated servers, EA games connecting through EA and Steel Batallion (which was shut down eons ago anyway), we are effectively paying to play these games by hosting them on our boxes. Why am I still able to play PC games from the DOS era on-line yet, as of April 15th, won't be able to play Original XBox games on-line? The LAN tunneling services (XBConnect, Xlink KAI) are pretty much case and point, we can play 'on-line' using those at no cost, so why can't Microsoft let us do the same through some sort of server-side emulation layer that only lets us play without allowing access to XBox LIVE features such as friends, messaging etc?

I wouldn't be in such a rage if I knew the technical justification behind such a decision. Yes, Nelson claims that Microsoft's engineers gave it great thought and I don't doubt that, but we aren't idiots; they owe us a reason considering we pay for the service. But maybe us being intelligent consumers is precisely the point, any "justification" could be shot down in flames by a resident/lurking network/software engineer. I haven't posted on here in over 5-6 months, but this news was just too shocking.

End Rant.
--

What about DLC? I can only assume that DLC access will be removed. If that's going to be the case, allow us to download DLC for any title at no cost; it's going to become worthless anyway, right? Of course, not all games are going to be drastically affected. Quite a few games had a LAN option, so one could always use tunneling software. Halo 2, SC: Chaos Theory, Unreal Championship/Liandri Conflict, Pariah and Doom 3 come to mind. In fact, most LIVE-enabled games had some form of LAN access, so it's not all doom and gloom! Fighting games are the exception to this rule, however, so don't expect to play Third Strike, MK:Deception, KOF:Neowave or Capcom vs. SNK 2 online; then again, fighting games are best played locally anyway.

We only have the "please can we have more than 100 friends" whiners to thank. Well you got what you wished for, and then some; what scares me is that Microsoft might pull a similar stunt in the later generations. I doubt we'll get a price cut, as the yet-to-be-announced features may offset the savings brought about by this decision. Oh well, that's progress for you. Time to give Halo 2 the send off it deserves; my 5508+ games will not be forgotten.

Goodbye XBox LIVE 1-3.x, bring on the next generation.

Agreed, nothing like all-nighters of halo 2 with some friends and pizza.
..oh and NOOOOOOOOO

5 years and counting on Bungie. I feel old and worthless.

This sucks.

  • 02.08.2010 10:36 AM PDT

I'm going to sing 'Still Alive' in every Halo 2 game on April 14.
