Subject: Anyone else haveing trouble downloading Halo 2 maps?

I can't even play my copy of Halo 2.

I posted this in the xbox.com forums (Halo 2 and Support).

I wanted to play a little Halo 2 the other day, and it won't play at all. I get an error message saying the game won't load and to go to the xbox.com support page.

A few months ago, I purchased a 120 GB HDD and did the file transfer, so thought maybe that had something to do with it. I put on my old 20 GB HDD, recovered my gamertag, and sure enough, Halo 2 works.

So I put on my new 120 HDD, had to recover my gamertag (WTF? that's retarded), and I still got the same error message as before.

I deleted all Halo 2 info from the HDD except my saved game progress, and cleared the cache, and still nothing on this HDD.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong or how to fix it so I don't have to swap HDDs and recover my gamertag everytime (which takes an annoying amount of time)?

Thanks to anyone who provides any suggestions.

Guys, Microsoft is now monitoring how many complaints they're getting about this.

Everyday, complain to them.

On Twitter, reply to @xboxsupport. They're the official Xbox Support on Twitter and they reply to every tweet. I've already bugged them a few times. EVERYBODY, tweet these guys.

Everybody also needs to call support and complain that you want the maps back up. They're not going to put the maps up if just me and a couple others call. This needs to be a group effort.

This, this is what you need to do. When you call them, ask for an agent, then ask for a supervisor, don't waste your time unless you're talking to a supervisor.

I will explain how the maps get damaged.

The original xbox has DLC copy protection where if it isnt signed for the console, it wont work. It didn't matter that much as the failure rate was much lower, and the HDD was inside the console as well. The only way to attempt to pirate without modding was to copy the files to a memory card, and it would appear "damaged" if it wasn't for that console. Even then modders could beat that by resigining the files.

When you send in your 360 in to a service center, they swap your console with a working one. Since the 360 HDD is being moved, and since the liscense transfer doesn't apply to xbox 1 dlc and save games, you lose many of your save files and all of your title updates and DLC. They will appear damaged to the games, but not to the Dashboard.

Because there is no way to redownload, if it messes up you can't play.

Sorry for the double post but is this legitimate?

Is there any way to work around this problem at the moment?

If you havn't played Halo 2 online than you are missing so much. Plus if you have played a good amount of Halo 2 online, I might have a better chance of listening to anything you say.

That is made up. Me and my friends maps have been damaged before and it was just because we havent been on the game in awhile. I recently switched to an Elite and transfered my memory to a 120 GB HDD. The maps still work fine.

I got your FLAG BLUE TEAM!

When I get home tommorow I am putting Halo 2 in my 360 and making sure I have the maps. If I don't have the maps, someone in India is going to expect an earful.

I had made a post on the xbox forums in the Halo 2 section. If it get's enough attention, I would hope it would get attention from some people higher up.

Like many other users I was deeply saddened when I learned that Microsoft would be pulling the Xbox LIVE support for the original Xbox titles. Halo 2 was of course included in this abandonment. Unfortunately if you're like me when you signed onto Halo 2, you were required to update the game. This then caused the DLC to become corrupted for some unexplained reason. It asks you to re-download the maps but unfortunately Microsoft had taken down the map packs from the in-game content download menu, leaving many users inaccessible to play the Matchmaking system on Halo 2.

At this point I only see two possible solutions.

1. Microsoft re-uploads the Halo 2 map packs onto the Xbox Live Marketplace. It makes no sense that content that many users paid for should become inaccessible OFFLINE after April 15th. When you purchase the rights to play the DLC for Halo 2, you should expect to be able to continue using the DLC even after online support is disabled for LANs and split screen games.

2. If Microsoft won't simply re-upload those maps onto the Xbox Live Marketplace, the only other option would have to rely on Bungie removing the requirements on the Matchmaking playlists to have the map packs. While this would solve the problem in playing the game online, it doesn't resolve the problem in being able to access the map packs after April 15th.

I have spoken to two supervisors on Xbox Support (1-800-4-MY-XBOX), they said they would be monitoring the amount of calls that they receive in regards to this problem. If you're in the same situation as me and can't play Halo 2 online due to this corrupted map problem, CALL THEM and demand to speak to a supervisor once you gt a hold of an agent.

Someone, either Microsoft or Bungie, really needs to step up and give their consumers what they paid for, before the service goes offline. I must say that I am deeply disappointed in Microsoft's decision. It just goes to show that I can no longer trust this company when it comes to digital content. If this issue is not resolved I will be canceling my Gold subscription to Xbox Live.

Feel free to discuss or post other possible solutions.

Then explain my situation. Not everyone gets the RROD. Not being on for awhile makes you have to do an update for all games that havent been recently played, and that causes Halo 2 DLC to get corrupted. The last time Bungie released an update for Halo 2 was May 9th, 2007. Yet from time to time people still have to do new updates. You have no evidence that sending in an xbox causes the problem since mine have been damaged a few months ago(though i got them back) even though I havent sent mine in recently, maybe like years ago. I have also switched between mulitple Xboxes and DLC still works.

On it. Not sure what, if any, solution we can work out, but we definitely can't adjust the playlists over the weekend. Sit tight.
In the meantime do you think it would be a good idea to buy the Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack or would it be a waste of money? I ordered it from Amazon and I'd like to know if I need to cancel that order before it's too late.
I got one a while ago. It is a nice collector's item anyway.

Spartans are from Venus and Elites are from Uranus

I pay a monthly fee for live for this horse ****? Hey, I can handle Live support for original xbox games being pulled, especially since they gave us a fair warning to give us some time to prepare for it and play our games. But to take down the DLC servers with absolutely no warning or even an announcement? As of right now the only way you'd learn this is by visiting a forum or trying to download xbox 1 dlc yourself.

It's bad enough that the customers don't get a warning but they should have at the very least warned Bungie so that they could have planned for it and done something about it within a timely fashion.

OXB DLC is linked directly to your console, that's why H2 DLC is corrupt when you try to load it up on a different console.

There is a huge difference between how DLC for 360 games work and how DLC for OXB games work.

I'm guessing MS fixed your console, so your DLC still works. Some 360s are not fixable and people are sent new/refurb consoles.

User: Can anyone download Halo 2 DLC anymore? There have been a lot of complaints on the Bungie.net forums. Will this be fixed?

Microsoft: We can pull up some info on that for you soon.

MS: This link will explain all: http://bit.ly/96j5QB

User: I already knew all that. I am asking if the maps will be downloadable before they turn the server off.

MS: Unfortunately, they won't be available. We'll keep you updated if any changes occur.

Did you even read my post? I said my Halo 2 DLC still works no matter which Xbox I have loaded it up on. Its only if i Havent played it for awhile that it becomes corrupt, so stop pulling lies out of your butt.

Bungie,

Is there anyway to get an update as to the status of the DLC/Map situation. It would be greatly appreciated. I know others would like to hear this as well, at least to know it is still on the radar. I have been trying to get some friends lined up so we can start reliving the good ole days, but they are having the same issue that most of us are.

Thanks,

I am not lieing, maybe you need more knowledge of how the Xbox 1 works.

Mine was "corrupt" after i got it fixed. And even though i havent played halo 2 in a while on my 360, i checked it and it is still good (along with all my xbox 1 save files)

I hate microsoft all the time, their tech support is completely terrible, they are always make terrible decisions, and if it wasn't for their exclusive games, I would have switched consoles years ago.

I know this is Microsoft's fault, but at least some sort of an update from Bungie by this point would be nice. It's been several days now. If it's not going to be fixed, at least let us know. Even just an acknowledgment of our frustration and a "we're still seeing what can be done" would be nice.

We should pool money together and send Brock Lesnar to India to fight microsoft's tech support. Then we would get DLC. Phone calls don't get results, rear naked chokes do!

  • 02.09.2010 11:51 AM PDT

I have wrote to everyone i could think of for this except bungie because i think they know what is going on just no response yet. Don't even think about talking to xbox support, they just give you canned responses anyway. Only thing to do is to call and complain, maybe someone will get an actual person who understands the problem that we have. I just do not see them doing anything about this. The community needs to find a solution, people have hacked halo for years maybe one of those guys can figure it out.
