Dear Bungie,
I am an avid Halo fan and have been since the release of Halo 2. I currently own Halo: CE, Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST. I even went to a midnight release of Halo 3.
After reading your weekly update (02.05.10), I was saddened to learn that Halo 2, the first great original Xbox Live game was to be disconnected on April 15th. I, as I'm sure others did too, rushed to my Xbox (360) and popped in Halo 2. I waited for it to load up and I signed in to Xbox Live. It asked me to update my maps. No problem, I thought. I went to the Halo 2 Download menu, and I learned the terrible truth. Microsoft has disconnected the original Xbox Live DLC server. I realized then that I couldn't play Halo 2 online again. . . .
Despite the initial sense of finality, I had a thought. If Bungie could disable the map requirements, all could revel in Halo 2's SPARTAN killing goodness one last time. We could all participate, as a united community, and play right up until the microsecond Microsoft pulls that plug. For these last 10 weeks of Halo 2's twilight, let us all have Halo 2. If one of your children had 10 weeks to live, would you ignore and shut them out? No, I believe that you would do all in your power to help them fulfill any last wishes they had before their passing. Halo 2 is your child, Bungie, and I implore you to let us all have one last shot at its splendor before its eternal silence.
In 15 years' time, when our children ask us, "What was Halo, and why was it such a big deal? Did you ever play it?" All that I, along with all other devoted Halo 2 fans are asking is for us to be able to reply: "We all loved that game; it was a pioneer well ahead of its time. And when the plug was pulled, I was there."
Respectfully yours,
HOBOFRANK
