To be perfectly honest (and some of you may want to flay me for this opinion...but thats okay, you dont know where i live :D) I think the story line behind the marathon series is incredible. A sci-fi series of books about Marathon would be twice as interesting as halo...at least in my humble opinion. What does everyone else think? And if you've never played/seen/heard of/dont know about Marathon, your going to make an ass out of yourself if you make a hasty post. Youve been warned.

As a fellow Marathon addict, I agree that the Marathon books would be awesome. I personally don't think that they'd be twice as good as the Halo books, but they'd definitely be good. I'd like to see what the inside of Durandal's head is like, and the best way to do that would be using a novel.

Just the way the story line is set up would call for a lot of really cool ideas if presented in a novel format. If done proffesionially, there could be some incredible devices for the author to utilize. I mean, three massive AI's battling it out would be cause for a book in and of itself.

I think it would be awesome if they made a Marathon book! Although maybe not twice as awesome as Halo...

I have to agree... the Marathon plotline was incredible. The Halo plot felt much more like a great sci-fi novel, but the Marathon plot was simply epic. Amazing stuff.

Since it looks like we have some old-timers here... anyone here actually play Pathways Into Darkness? One thing I wish Bungie would do is release that and the Marathon series for free. Maybe one day...

Kind of off the topic. But as you all might know, marathon is pretty much a early version of halo. i don't know much about the marathon story line, because I played the game years ago and I was just a little kid, so I just hit space bar repeatedly and blew shiz-it up!

Anyway, just kind of wondering. What if they brought the Aliens from Marathon into Halo? That would be hot if you ask me. They had some pretty badass Aliens to fight off. And if you discovered them in say maybe Halo 2, possibly Halo 3. I could be like a three way battle between the Prophor (I forget how to spell the name), the covenant and humans! I would be pretty cool stuff

There are actually some pretty major differences in the two. I wouldn't say that it was an "early halo" (if anything along those lines, Halo is a "updated Marathon" :P), the plots are quite different. Many of the parallels are superficial only, the meat of the story is very different. The sheer scope alone is gargantuan when compared to Halo.

You might want to take a look at the Marathon Story Page (which also goes into the connections between Halo and Marathon):

Bungie was originally a Macintosh developer and all their early games were for the mac (boy, did we have fun staying up till daybreak playing Marathon on the network. Nice advantage of a night job :)). Anyway, Marathon, Marathon 2, and Marathon Infinity were all released for the mac. They also released Marathon 2 for the PC (which I think you might be able to get via Aelph One (http://source.bungie.org/), and I had heard the may have also released it for a console, but not one of the bigger ones :(. Hope that helps...

Only Marathon 2 for PC? This is not fair, I want to play Marathon. I'm going to look for it on Amazon.....
OK, I can't find it, and marathon.bungie.org says the story is complicated, so, I'll settle for a book...
Now you got me started on something else I want...

I think if there were to be a succesfull book version of marathon there would need to be an incredible amount of interaction with the older bungie crew...they were what made the story so cool in the first place. I actually started a thread earlier discussing a possible marathon remake...that would be interesting. Of course, part of the genius of the original game was really reaction to restrictions that hampered developers back when it was made....some of bungies answers were phenominal...advancing the story line through the computer terminals, for example...just brilliant.

Arravis
Listen you ignorant piece of s h i t. Halo is an updated version of Marathon. I didn't mean the story-line was the same, I know that. So thanks for nothing Captain Obvious. I WAS TALKING ABOUT THE GAMEPLAY!
I meant it in a Alien vs. Pretor kind of way. Like what if. Perhaps for fun, or even if they wanted to be creative. To bring the alien -blam!-s from Marathon into Halo, just for something else to blow away. If you don't want to respond to my post with positive feedback, then you should respond at all. Or I will chew your stupid head off.

jeez doc...breathe through your nose man. I didnt think aravis was trying to bash your opinion. Halo is of course more of an evolution of marathon...i even daresay it could be possible to consider (in a very serious twist) that the marathon story could be a precurser to the halo story...i know a lot of dates and other facts dont mesh but...anyway, i think you need to calm down though man. Aravis I dont think was trying to rip your opinion up. Also, if your trying to verbaly attack someone, at least try to use decipherable grammar.

Exactly why did you feel it was necessary to use insults, slander, and other scatological explatives in this? I'm simply attempting to have a conversation, nothing more. A conversation is an exchange of different ideas, if you simply want agreement with your own ideas, there's not need to even post on a message board. If you wish to loose your temper and throw a tantrum, that's your business. It doesn't belong on this message board.

Wow.

I just read through the first and last page of the thread taking about who would win in a fight between the hulk, the terminator, and the mc. Unreal people. How disgusting. Its people like everyone on the last page of that thread and people like doc up there that ruin these kinds of forums. WHY THE -blam!- DO YOU HAVE TO BE SO HOSTILE? The forums would be an awesome place if immaturity werent so rampant. Dont post anything on this thread if it doesnt forward the discussion or if it is just derogatory and childish.

Hey, I am sorry for exploding on you guys. That wasn't right! It's just all my idea's have been smashed pretty much so far. So when you disagreed with me, I was just getting more frustrated. So sorry for saying the things I said. I'll let you beat me in xbox live when Halo 2 comes out. Or something, I dunno

But your right, I and people shouldn't be like that, this is all OPINIONS, and I guess when people have different opinions, they don't always react in a proper way. Anyway, im babbling, so later.

Decatus has a big point. The storyline for Marathon is brilliant and as a fellow Phtor kicker I feel that Marathon stories would be good because there is lots for them to write about.
