The universe is probably littered with the one-planet graves of cultures which made the sensible economic decision that there's no good reason to go into space--each discovered, studied, and remembered by the ones who made the irrational decision.
I will be the first to admit, I like a majority of xbox players don't regularly play old titles. However we all have those days where nostalgia sets in and we go back to games we haven't touched in months and years. We paid for a service, and we should have a right to play our games when we want in a perfect world.
It is sad that Microsoft's xbox team is finally starting to act like its main company in how it teats its products in the computer market. To say the old xbox and games are hindering improvement for live is silly. Basically what it comes down to, is Microsoft's Xbox division doesn't want to invest any of the 110 million they gained over 2009 in finding a way to integrate the old with the new. It is sad too, because even if the old titles don't have the player base, I don't see how not leaving the dedicated master servers up will cost anything major. Game companies still support their titles years after release. Epic games still has the master servers up for Unreal Tournament, an almost 11 year old game. A game making most likely 0 profit for the company.
I am going to miss halo 2, and I guess I can expect the same treatment down the road when a new xbox console comes out to all current 360 games.
