The population really was low lately, and while many of us love the gameplay, we didn't really have the patience to wait so long between games, and it's mostly just held as very fond memories of a game superior to Halo 3 in gameplay, but not in population.
But with a finite time left, we might really get a chance to have some oldschool Halo 2 magic in the final weeks, where people are using their last chance to play the game on XBL.
Playlists might have enough players in the last 2 weeks to feel like the old days: imagine playing a whole evening of nonstop Halo 2 Team Slayer, nobody getting particularly angry if they lose, since their rank will disappear in a few weeks anyway.
I can't wait for April to come around so I finally get to play some Collosus Team Rifles, Relic 1 Flag, Sanctuary Neutral Flag, Beaver Creek, Lockout, Midship, Warlock... I could go on.
I really hope this game goes out with a bang, I want some fun like we had back in those days, the fun so many of us feel Halo 3 didn't deliver.
Thanks for the memories, Bungie, and I hope we can squeeze a few more out of Halo 2's final Xbox Live hours.
