to put it in simple terms, to have a game you need:
* Game Engine
* 3D models /Meshes
* Skins to cover those 3D models
now HALO 2 has a new game engine, new levels, new skins for those levels.
new 3D charachters, and new skins for those Charachters.
new music.
If you look at it, its basically a new game.
now they might import certain 3D models and skins from HALO 1, but I doubt it.
Yes, but if all of those things are used to portray the same things as they were in the first game, then it's the same game.
You could go off and use the Far Cry engine to rebuild the original Halo, it would be all new models, an all new engine, and all new high quality skins, but it would be the same game, because despite the technical differences, all the interactions will be the same, same weapon balance, same tactics to defeat the same enemies, same levels, same preferred weapon combos.
Halo 2 has new weapons which will change the balance of the game, new enemies, and new ways for old enemies to act, and most importantly, new environments for it all to happen in.
Halo 2 isn't Halo 1.5 because the things that define how you play it are different, and would still be different even if the old game engine, models, and skins were perfectly intact.
