Subject: Bungie may have messed up.

Ok I have noticed something interesting while playing ODST. ODST is set a couple of weeks before Halo 2 right...right. So that means that the elites should be the dominent enemy not Brutes. Since ODST is before Halo 2 the Brutes haven't taken over yet the elites should be the main ememy. One last thing if I am wrong don't send me hate mail like I know you all will. I am not perfect...wow what a shock.

Thanks All,

All it took was a stew of whoopass.

The brutes were already starting taking over. We just didn't notice it yet.

The strongest Rivals are also the strongest allies.

odst is during the 3rd/4th mission of halo 2.

Those Elite bodies should have given you a clue. Halo 2 was set in a smaller area than you think. Everywhere else the Brutes on Earth were killing the Elites. The Elites Master Chief fought just hadn't been killed yet.

The Brutes were already gradually taking over as Master Chief was fighting his way through New Mombasa, and as mentioned, ODST takes place chronologically after Master Chief left New Mombasa as the carrier slipjumped to Installation 05, which you see in ODST's opening scene.

It's not like there were Elites everywhere and then suddenly -poof- all brutes. No. One may have this impression following Master Chief, but that's not what's going on. It happens gradually, and the big final bang comes when the honor guards are replaced and the Hierarchs openly name the Brutes as their defenders.

Yes, but Bungie should have explained it better as most new players would have been confused, If they had played HALO2-3.

the prophets could have just started the brutes taking over..starting with earth.

also...new mombassa was already lost so they just left the brutes there just as an occupying force.

Each Halo game creates continuity errors based on the last story. This game is not the exception.

But outside of the story .... there was no elite enemy AI so they had to use Brutes. This is why we got tossed that aside of Dare hinting that she might know something even though the take over wasnt even happening at that point.

This was around the time when the brutes began to rise in power over the elites, making them obsolete.

Major C.B.

But remember that you don't really start playing until 6 hours after crashing -- This is way past the Chief's visit to New Mombasa. I believe it was still on the tail end of Halo 2, but by this point, the slipspace rupture, the Chief, and then the Brutes had already killed a good number of the Elites in New Mombasa. Truth took this opportunity to insert Brutes into New Mombasa (the other Prophets didn't know about this). The only part I find hard to believe is that there was only one ship in the Covenant fleet, and it entered slipspace. It would take days for it to get very far, and it was the only Covenant ship in sight, if I remember correctly. Yet 6 hours later we have a complete Covenant occupation? I just personally found this very odd.

Then, I haven't played Halo 2 in years, and I could be getting my sequence of events mixed up completely, and that's probably it. Bottom line, the Elites that were in New Mombasa were killed first by the Chief, then by the slipspace rupture, and then by the Brutes that occupied the region within the 6-hour span following. And Truth is the Prophet that betrayed the Elites, before consulting the other Prophets. Yeah, that's it. Truth was trying to take over secretly, and gaining the trust of the Brutes and betraying the Elites was his key to doing that. So he allowed the Brutes to occupy New Mombasa.

Ummm... we find out about the Brutes killing Elites from Buck's mission which happens seconds after his pod hits the ground.

The story of Halo is very deep and many people are super into it, don't be discouraged. If you were to try the books you will get sucked in to it (there great except for the Flood, skip it if you have played Halo:CE). There is a Halo Wiki page that helps.
