If this has already been said, I appologize. Despite certain timeline discrepencies, I have always found it interesting that the Marathon/PiD timeline lists the time of 2472-2611 as the "century intentionally left blank" (according to MBO/story) and it is, infact, the same century in which Halo takes place (2492-2552 according to HBO). Since the Marathon (one of Mars' moons converted into a space craft) left in 2472, my question is: "When the Master Chief lands on earth for Halo 2 and looks up at Mars, how many moons does he see?"

I believe that there is no direct correlation between universes, as Bungie says, yet I still enjoy rampant specula7ions.

Yeah, this has been speculated on, probably many times before. But it is a good question, although I doubt anyone here will be able to Reveal the Tru7h...

I loved looking into the timeline hole . . . until that is, I joined in on the Marathon Speculation Thread that bobs up and down on the underground everynow and then . . . and we realized, looking at both the Halo and Marathon timelines, that the evolution of technology in both universes does not match (at all).

Just to point out one "contradition" without having to do any background research, if Halo takes place while the Marathon is enroute, then that means FTL travel was discovered not too long after the marathon left. Now comes the contradition? Tau Ceti is very close to earth. Wouldn't some ship go out to meet the Marathon as it putters slowly out to Tau Ceti, and refit it with FTL drives? Or at least, wouldn't Tau Ceti be colonized by FTL colony ships when it gets there?

(these are not my original ideas).

Either way, a cursurory glance at the two timelines at HBO yield technological differences (FTL, teleportation, etc) as well as different colonizing methods that would cause a confliction between the two. Which is a darn shame. I'd like to think there is a deeper meaning to forerunner, covenant, and human vehicles being adorned with the Marathon Logo. Blasted.

Well, I for one, have never been opposed to laziness...

Ach! Was ist los?

I wouldn't be surprised if Halo 2's Mars has NO moons...

Deimos: Turned into a colony ship, sent off to start the Marathon franchise.

Phobos: Removed because of threats from Idiot^H^H^H Software regarding alleged infringment of the d00m franchise.
