Well, I guess it depends on which chipset. I have a Radeon 9800XT and a GeForce 5950 Ultra, and I can't really tell a difference. I've sort of always preferred nVidia however, I'm not sure why. It's not similar to my feeling of Intel/AMD. I cringe at the thought of an intel chip. But with nVidia and ATi, I don't really mind either. My favorite chipsets are the GeForce 6800GT and the Radeon 9800pro ^_^

I think that is correct because of the chips structure and what it's designed for. nVidia, however has ultra shadow which is good for games like Doom3, which I enjoy =)

I just got a radeon X800 XL and it is amazing. I run every single game that i have on 1280x1024, with the settings as high as they can go, and the framerate never drops below 70. When I play halo on my pc with the settings maxed, the framerate is usually in the 80's-90's+.

I had an nvidia 6800 gt, and I sold it to my friend. It had the same exact specs as my current card(x800 xl), and the ATI seems to run smoother with higher fps.

I used to love nvidia, but eversince i got my new card i think I'm now an ATI person

Well the new nvidia cards may be nice (7800) but the cheapest you'l find it is no less than $500, unless its a 256mb version. Those things are incredible, but also have an incredibly high price.

ATI's generally have the most bang for the buck, at least in my opinion

i'm kinda new to the pc gaming thing (at least 7 months), so i've only had one video card that could handle gaming, ATi X300SE. It's the slowest and cheapest of ATi's PCI-Express cards (< $100). It's not meant to handle games at the max, but i have a lot of overclocking room. I can overclock the core speed from 324 Mhz. to 459 Mhz., and the memory from 196 Mhz. to 229 Mhz. It just seems like a lot to me. It still doesn't turn it into an X800 XL in terms of what it can do. In halo, 640x480 with all settings max very rarely goes below 30 fps. doesn't seem like a lot, but it is very similar in terms of what the xbox is like.

Anyway, i like ATi. Their cards seem to be more apt to handling the extensive pixel shading and special graphics, while nvidia is just brute computation speed. Please correct this if i'm wrong.

nvidia you can't beat SLI and ATI cards dont even have shader model 3.0 yet so their behind in the tech capibilities right off the bat.

Well from my standpoint, I had I guess what you can call the pair of cards that were equal from both companies. I had the 6800GT and now the X800 XL which I have very similar speeds( Core clock 425mhz, mem clock 1ghz), same amount of pixel pipelines(16), 256MB ram, ect. I can honestly say that I've been getting higher framerates with my x800 XL. On halo pc with the resolution at 1280x1024, with my ATI ive get usually around 90-100 fps, and my 6800gt would usually stay low 90's, and wouldnt go above 100fps very often. You computer savey people know about the whole performace wise thing with ATI and Nvidia on OpenGL/Direct x, well my ATI seems to do better on both.

i agree with this man. i've used both brands, and a few frames a second over the other isnt gonna make that big of a difference. whatever you can find a deal for, go for it. at each level, there is a different winner.

i also agree with the one guy though, i wish i didn't have to hook like 50 bagillion power cords to my nVidia cards, lol
