Always check if theres bog roll first

I wonder if there will be a final on screen message when the game is disconnected.

I will lose a part of myself whatever! :(

  • 02.15.2010 6:26 PM PDT

The news of today will fade into 'morrow. They are the strong, they'll survive!

Hang on; so once this XBL thing happens, will I be unable to play Halo 2 on my 360 at all? Even offline?

Offline should be fine,
it is only the servers that are being shutdown.

Look on the bungie blog for the link to the official microsoft explanation

Saw the official announcement; it didn't really do much to answer my concern. But I do hope that offline remains; I'd hate to lose those two campaigns...

  • 02.15.2010 6:49 PM PDT

Al the campaigns from Halo are great.
To bad the shut the servers down, to day will be my first time Halo 2 online.

The naivety of this post astonishes me.

Name one on-line console game that came before this that broke so much ground.
Without Halo 2 the Xbox Live service and the current generation of Xbox Live would not exist today.

This is not a debate. You owe everything live is today to this game and don't know how lucky you are that Sony does not rule the Console wars of today.

You are the perfect example of the Xbox Live community of today. Ignorant montage kids whose only goal on live is to insult others. Halo 3 and its community are nothing in comparison to the passion, excitement and fun that Halo 2 brought to the online console world.

Halo 2 was technically the first game to define the way we play multiplayer games today on the console systems. It had the biggest gaming community behind for it's time. And it also was one of the first game's to get the idea of limited editon's copies out there. And while it didn't define graphical capabilities, people still look back at it today. That says something.

Does it really matter what it did for consoles? No. Why? Simple, it was done years before on the PC. Been there, done that. If you want to be remembered for being revolutionary you better set the bar for ALL gaming platforms. Saying that without Halo 2 the Xbox Live service would not exist today is EXTREMELY stupid. Do you have any hard evidence of this? No, you don't.

It IS debatable. Again, your statement is an opinion and you can't back it up with factual evidence.

First sentence is an opinion and you can't back it up with any factual evidence. I'll take quality over quantity any day. Like I stated before, to be a revolutionary game you need to compare it to ALL games on all platforms. I can be the best at something if I narrow the focus enough. Tons of PC games came out before it that had the "Limited Edition" idea down.

  • 02.17.2010 11:34 PM PDT

I have to agree that without Halo 2 Microsoft wouldn't have the balls to go forth and produce a next generation console. And I still remember playing games on XBL before Halo 2 came along. They were really slow to start up and you could never find any players to boot too. I was but a wee-little-lad (like 16, 17 idunno) when I first popped in my H2 disk in. I was astonished by the community behind the game.

But then again I could be on the bias side. I love Halo. I am an addict. Tattoos of Chief, Orbiter, Cortana and etc etc all over my temple of a body. Plus I hold Halo 2 in a very high regard cuz it's what I did right after High School with my buds. It brought us closer together and I have to admit... I am shedding a tear for the lose of this game. But I will still stand by and defend it whenever some turd gets on the forums and just wants to trash it. You are entitled to your opinion but come on... did really think that you would find a different response to your post?

It doesn't matter. It doesn't have to revolutionize all platforms. New systems come and go, but a game that sets the standard for all games to follow is an accomplishment to be recognized. Some people prefer PC's, some people prefer Consoles, it doesn't matter.

The matchmaking features, fast gameplay, numerous gametypes, friends list, party, and many other features that you see today are happening solely because of what Halo 2 did. Stop thinking the only thing that matters is a keyboard and a mouse, a lot of players prefer the controller.

The PC has been around way longer, obviously it's going to have the 'first' of most things, which is why you cannot compare Xbox to PC gaming when talking about firsts, there are many 'firsts'.

Seriously... You are still here talking about Halo 2 not being revolutionary. You are talking about halo fans being bias... You're an idiot. Before you posted anything about this game being revolutionary you had a thread talking about why Halo 2 is the worst game ever made. You don't remember that? You are bias. You came into this website with the idea that Halo 2 sucks. So no matter what anyone says you are going to dispute the fact that it is a great game. Just because your not good at it doesn't mean it's not. I mean, seriously. But I guess your just one of those idiotic people that we unfortunately have to live with in this world... And for all the people that didn't get to read his idiotic thread about why halo 2 is bad, you should go and read it. It's pretty rich in moronic reasons and excuses about why he sucks lol!

well the one thing for shure is that halo 3 will never match up to halo 2 even with its faults. the maps for halo 2 were the most amazing ever. halo 2 was one of the first modren shooters on live and with out it there would be no halo 3. people dont realize that graphic arnt the only thing that matters in a game. when you ask some one why halo 3 is better than halo 2 graphics was always the answer not game play. the community has changed so much playing games on live has almost become not fun any more. people take the new games so seriously that you wonder where all the fun and exitment went. shure people on halo 2 where like that. but even with the jerks like that I still had fun in halo 2 it was the only thing that mattered to me was to have fun. Now I go play halo 3 the only thing that matters is winning. you get called a noob for haveing ranks that in halo 2 were so hard to get. people in halo3 even with high ranks arnt good. people that boost there acounts to a 50 so they can act like a jerk is all you see in halo 3 personaly i think that halo 3s ranks should be rest so that people have to get there 50s fair

Halo is what helped the xbox gain it's popularity.
Halo 2 made is what made xbox live such a thriving success.
Halo and halo 2 both sparked the popularity of video game tournaments and laid the foundation of the largest professional video game league in the world we now know as MLG.

Those are some examples of how halo has changed gaming. Yes there are other games that came before it that had the same concepts. Yes there were PC games that had the same ideas and online play even before xbox even came out. However, the fact is that halo became the most popular which resulted in it having a much greater influence on video games. It's popularity is what helped xbox live grow and it's critical success influenced game developers around the globe.

These are not opionions but more of obvious facts. If you still disagree than maybe you are a child or just a -blam!- idiot.

halo 2 changed online gaming by adding matchmaking and matching people by rank. This may have still come up in games eventuly but halo 2 was one of the first. before halo 2 a majority of games used server list where the host chose games and it was not random gametypes on random maps. For another intresting bit of trivia halo 2 had the most stuff cut from the game of any halo 2 missions were cut and some enemies to go with them.

without the sucsess of halo 2 the xbox would have been a huge flop and i dont thing online gaming would be this popular halo 2 inspired other game develepers to make their own online modes

  • 03.13.2010 10:04 PM PDT

lol why are you all saying goodbye to Halo 2? It's not like everyone's Halo 2 disc is going to explode. You can all still play Halo 2, just not online. You should probably rephrase your thread next time. But yeah I will miss playing Halo 2 online. Oh and I think I should clarify something first.

While Halo 2 did popularize Xbox Live, it is not what got Xbox Live started. In fact, Halo 2's online xbox live multiplayer would not be popular without an earlier game. This earlier game is called MechAssault. The first MechAssault game was what got Xbox Live started. It had early matchmaking features that eventually carried on into Halo 2. It was the most popular Xbox Live game before Halo 2. It basically got Xbox Live to be somewhat popular in the beginning and Halo 2 completed the process and popularized it by showing what Xbox Live can do.

So Halo 2 was the best original xbox live game until later 360 games came out like Halo 3, Gears of War 2, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. But overall, Xbox Live's success and the Xbox 360's success is owed to 3 games, MechAssault, Halo 2, and Halo 3. Those 3 games have popularized Xbox Live and brough a lot of people to the Xbox 360.
