Subject: Memories from your first play-through on Campaign

When you first played Halo: Combat Evolved on Campaign -- be it on solo or on co-op -- did you have any particularly memorable experiences that stuck with you through the years?

My most memorable experience was during my first play-through of Campaign, late at night, and having just made it to the level Truth and Reconciliation. I remember the entire level having a sense of adventure - from quietly making my way across the dark terrain with the song Under The Cover of Night playing in the background; battling the Covenant (and Hunters) near the gravity lift; holding-out in the cargo bay of the ship, and encountering camouflaged Energy Sword-equipped Elites for the first time; and exploring the alien corridors, battling my way through the ship.

The whole mission felt like a mystery to me, and it truly was an adventure. Though, looking back, the level sure felt a lot longer back then - but I'll never forget my first time playing it.

With that said, do you have any first-time Campaign experiences or memories you'd like to share?

I remember ramming warthogs on that one island level.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Definitely the first step out of the lifeboat onto the Halo. You just immediately see this sprawling landscape of mountains and canyons and trees, then off in the distance you see the rest of the ring arcing up into the sky.

The first time I ever played Halo was on the Silent Cartographer, I had just gotten back from a holiday and my brother was playing and he walk out of the pelican and started to fight to capture the beach. By the time they dropped off the warthog it was my turn and from the second my hands touched the controller I knew that it would be my favorite game.

Also the first time I played 343 Guilty Spark and saw the flood I freaked me out as I was only little at the time.

But the fist time I finished the last level I was so relieved because I just could not survive the big jump but now I can do it every try, for some reason.

All in all Halo is my favorite series of all time and I can not wait for Reach it will be everything any Halo has done right and even more.

Mine was stepping out of the crashed escape pod and being welcomed to the giant alien world before my eyes.

i remember getting lost in 343 Guilty Spark. I was so frustrated because i kept going in circles

  • 02.15.2010 11:23 AM PDT

That first grunt a killed once I got that pistol from Captain Keyes

  • 02.15.2010 11:54 AM PDT

I remember driving the Warthog for the first time. Took off, fell over a small cliff, killed both marines. When into the cave that was not a natural location, I kept driving into the walls everytime I tried to turn.

I loved it.

Somebody with extreme moral value is about to post and tell you how bad it is that you're going to miss one day of school. Just wait for it... wait for it...

Education is the most important thing in your life. Don't skip it for a video game.

Tada!

T&R and The Library. Also the Beach one. Hell every level was fun!

In generic AotCR room #4: The Pit, I couldn't spot the difference between glass and no-glass, so I kept falling to my death while trying to balance on the tiny visible beam.

And that, gentlemen, was my first game of Halo: Combat Evolved.

Assault on the Control Room was the greatest map I ever played. Now the Halo 3 level The Covenant is my favorite. But still, I remember the badass Zealots. Their characteristic stance and gold armor and their badass sword swings... I remember running like hell screaming, "holy -blam!- nooooooo!". :P Now I have a habit of adding Mr. Zealot to that. :D

I still play Halo CE except I have modded AotCR and the Zealots have doubled health and shields. :D It's very fun to have Energy Sword duels with a Zealot.

But my very first Campaign map was The Silent Cartographer. Halo Trial introduced me to the world of Halo. Yes, I was a n00b, and I never thought of using the Warthog to run over the Hunters. D:

I was too afraid to play on Legendary. Now I play on Legendary all the time.

And the Flood scared the -blam!- out of me. Now I consider them pets, at least in Halo 3. The Halo 1 Flood still scare me.

Soon to be breaking news:

US Coast Guard prepares for massive rescue mission after Iranian fleet sinks off shore. Reports say a small thunderstorm caused most of the ships to simply...fall apart.

Truth and Reconciliation. After going up the grav lift, I didn't know what to expect. I didn't hear the door open. I heard a marine scream. I turned around and saw the Stealth Elite. He killed a few more before I killed him.
