Fan-Fiction: The Human-Covenant War, Without The Great Schism. Story of how the war would have been if The Great Schism never happened.

I have been gone for quite a while, and my original Topic won't let me reply back on my story, so I guess I have to start a new one.

Here is the link to the story. http://www.bungie.net/forums/posts.aspx?postID=38091481&p ostRepeater1-p=1

Just a refresher, I will be continuing from where I left off, which is where High Charity is on it's way to Sangheilos, Masterchief is on the Dreadnought, and where the ODST's finally get their mission ready.

********************************************************
Chapter 8 (Part 1): A new hope. Two days after the High Charity event.

Location: Area 51

Aaron looked at the big screen. "This isn't going to work."

Lord Hood put his hand on Aaron's shoulder. "Don't give up hope, we can still win this war."

Aaron sighed. "Nothing like this has ever been done.... and we only have a thousand ODST's."

Lord Hood walked to the T.V. "A thousand of the best, and that is all we need. We need everyone else here on Earth, in case they come back."

Aaron played the attack in his head. Him and his squad, which only consisted of him, Michelle, and Martin, and 997 other ODST's were to go aboard The Silent Message, which was a high class stealth ship just created, even better than the UNSC Point of No Return, which was supposedly the most advanced Stealth Prowler every created. The Silent Message was easily double it's size, had twice the Armour, twice the space. In other words, it was twice as better.

There was a Covenant super carrier hiding behind the moon. They can only see the hull of the ship, even with satellites. Their mission: To board the Hull, take control of the ship, and bring it back to Earth. This ship could be the key to the war. It could hold valuable information such as the Covenant worlds, battle tactics, technology, etc.

It was a highly dangerous mission. It was estimated that at least one to five ODST's would die in space on their way to the Covenant ship. The ODST's on this mission would be the first to try out the Stealth Pods, which are just as invisible as the ship itself. The Covenant won't know what hit them.

They were planned to start the mission in exactly two hours.

Aaron looked at Martin and Michelle, who were both practicing their sniping. He walked up to Martin, and noticed he kept missing the small two inch moving robot that was 75 meters away.

"Aim to where you think the robot will move to, not where it's at.", He said. Martin turned around, and saluted to Aaron, accidentally shooting a shot in midair. "Son, you better learn how to control that gun of yours."

Martin was embarrassed, but managed to talk back, which he wasn't supposed to unless ordered. "Sir, this isn't my gun, it's just here for pra----."

"Excuse me? ODST! you don't talk back to me unless ordered to!" Aaron then motioned to the ground. Martin shook his head, and did twenty push-ups.\

He didn't like to be mean, but he knew he had to release the anger inside Martin. He was becoming too dependent on Michelle.

"Now, are you going to hit that damn robot or not?!"

Martin nodded, replaced the ammo, and took aim. He shot, and the bullet trail signaled where the bullet was going. Aaron smiled. It was going to hit it.

A small red spark signaled he was right, and he patted Martin on the back, who returned to him a small smile. He was still pissed at being embarrassed.

Aaron checked his watch. 90 minutes till showtime.

Location: Sangheilos, city of Vadam.

Mo'Taz looked at the beautiful city of Vadam. It was such a perfect scene. The sky was orange and purple, the lush grass swaying in the soft wind, and the large city beneath him. He was on his favorite cliff, which oversees most of the city. He could just barely see the skyline, which had a bluish color. He couldn't make out any of the features. The city housed more than twenty million Sangheilis.

Every part of this day he would take his banshee and fly over to the cliff to eat some meat from a Thorn Beast. He finished the last part of the leg he brought today, and stood up and just watched the city.

He noticed something though.

There was a large, brown spot in the sky, he couldn't tell what it was. He did notice something though.

He noticed a trail of smoke, and a small brown dot racing to his position. He sat there for minutes watching until it was near him. It was easily twenty feet in diameter. It finally crashed into the small forest on the cliff to his right, leveling most of the trees. The shock wave was strong enough to wobble him himself.

He walked over through the dust and smoke, and looked at the small crater, and what it held in it. He saw an irregular shaped brown and moldy rock, which had pieces of metal in it. It also smelled really bad. He noticed something moving from inside of it. Something wanted to come out, and it finally did.

A small piece of the rock fell off, and a small, brown blob with many tentacles popped out, and started looking around until it saw him. It started to move towards him.

He thought it was somewhat cute, and funny the way it walked around, even though it also smelled bad. The creature tried to jump on him, but he caught it with both hands. It was very slimy, and didn't bother to escape his grip. It was trying to move it's tentacles rapidly toward his chest.

Mo'Taz laughed, and set it down on the grass. "Let's play tag, I'm it." He motioned for the creature to run in the opposite direction. It just stood there for a few seconds, and started to run to him again. He let it crawl on his leg, but it tickled too much, and so he grabbed it. Maybe it wanted to tickle his chest?

He put it close enough to his chest so that the biggest tentacle could touch it. As soon as he did, a strong shock filled his whole body, and he instantly reacted by throwing the creature away from his body. The creature hit a pointy branch, and popped. He looked at his chest, and rubbed it. He was bleeding.

A very loud noise filled the space, and looked back at the city. The large brown spot he saw in the sky was a lot closer now. His mandibles dropped. High Charity?

With his mandibles still dropped, he saw in horror High Charity slowly fall in the center of the city. A bright light filled his vision. He went momentarily deaf and blind. When his vision and hearing finally cleared up, he almost felt like throwing up. The sky above the city of Vadam was now a mix of black, brown, red, orange, and purple.

He could see the shock wave flying in all directions, even towards him, at an alarming rate. He ran towards the steep hill, and ducked. A moment later, the shock wave came over the cliff. He could see the radioactive lines passing him. His bones rattled violently, and the hill tore apart. In a matter of seconds, the shock wave passed. The broken trees also flew far apart. He could now clearly see the object in the crater.

His eyes widened. He knew where he recognized the metal. It was from High Charity. He turned to the city, and felt tears forming. Large parts of the city was on fire. Most buildings were destroyed. In the center of the city was High Charity, now a large mass of broken metal and fire. He turned back to the object, and realized the creature he was playing with must have taken over High Charity. He took out his sword, and activated it. He was only a ranked a Minor, and he sighed at the Blue armor he was wearing. He wished it was yellow.

He heard noises near the object, and stepped closer to it. It was tipped on it's side from the shock wave, and it was cracking violently, until it finally split open. He nearly dropped his sword when he saw the mutated Sangheili warrior inside, along with dozens of the blob creatures, and a large bulbous form with legs of an Unggoy. They all looked at him, and started to charge at him. The Sangheili jumped high in the air, and landed on him. It quickly went to work.

It ripped of one of his mandibles, and started to punch him in the face. He screamed, and stabbed the creature in the chest with his sword. Brown melting flesh welcomed him as the creature fell over.

He got up, and the large bulbous form fell over, and exploded, sending him flying backwards. He tried to wipe away the flesh from his armor, but had no time. The large wave of blobs was coming towards him. He primed a plasna grenade, and threw it in the middle. To his surprise, a chain reaction occured. The blobs started to pop, and any blob near it popped as well. The grass under them was starting to turn a sickly brown color.

He thought of his options. To the left of him, was what was left of the city of Vadam. To the right was a large lake, and he didn't know how to swim. In front were the creatures, and behind him was a very steep mountain. He knew he couldn't climb it in time. He realized that if they were to get him, he would be one of them. He primed his last plasma grenade, and stuck it to himself. He then dove right in the middle of the wave of blobs, and only felt the intense heat for less than a second, where after, he entered the dark abyss.

Fan-Fiction: The Human-Covenant War, Without The Great Schism. Story of how the war would have been if The Great Schism never happened.

Chapter 8 (Part 2): A New Hope

*************************************************************

Location: Space above Sangheilos.

R'tas and his small fleet of three capital ships finally exited slip space. He noticed a small red dot on the surface of Sangheilos, and zoomed in on it. High Charity was in the middle of the city of Vadam, with fires raging in and around the city.

R'tas slammed his fist on the desk, creating a dent. "The parasites have taken over Vadam, Hyenk, contact the prophets, inform them of what has happened."

Hyenk hesitated. "Sir, they are currently in slip space towards Earth, we can't contact them."

He put his hand on his chin, and thought. "Okay then, contact every world, inform them on what has happened. Tell them to bring every ship, soldier, and weapon they can use. We are going to retake Sangheilos."

**********************************************************
Location: Earth

Aaron looked outside of the hanger bay. He could see the bright Nevada desert outside. They were going to take off from Area 51. He checked his watch. It was show time.

The Silent Message had it's hanger bay's open. ODST's were marching inside, each trying to find it's pod. He checked his Battle Rifle, made sure he had four grenades, checked his helmet, and went in with the crowd.

After what seemed like forever getting inside the ship, he finally found his pod. #567. Martin's was #568, and Michell's was #566. He didn't see them in their pod, but decided they were on their way.

He pressed the open button, set his gun inside the pod's shelf, and sat inside. The door closed with a hiss, and we went moved on to his thoughts. He doubted something about the plan.

The Silent Message, just before dropping the ODSTs, is going the first of it's kind, a SHIEMP bomb. It is a combination of the Shiva nuclear bomb, and a large EMP bomb. The Shiva part will deplete the Covenant ship's shield, while the EMP will neutralize all electronics on the ship. Doing this will open a large hanger bay of the ship, where the ODSTs will land, and start their invasion. He had trouble thinking about how the pods will not be affected at all by the bomb, even though they won't be launched till after it explodes.

His thoughts were interrupted when Martin knocked on the pod, with Michelle at his side. Aaron threw a thumbs up, and Martin replied by raising his shotgun up. Martin and Michelle both proceeded to enter their pods.

He could feel the adrenaline pulsing through his blood, even though the ship hadn't left yet. This was going to be the first mission of it's kind ever attempted this way. It already had a nickname. "The Kamikaze".

He felt a budge, floated a little for a minute, then calmly stayed in place. The pods started lower until they were hanging under the ship. The moon was still far away, but he could note the small purple dot.

It was a weird feeling. The pods were invisible. He could see space on the sides and behind him. It was like floating in space while holding on to visible handlebars.

He couldn't help but stare at space. It was like his home. After all, he was an ODST.

A few minutes later, they finally reached the moon. They were just a few miles from the Covenant ship. It was huge, easily a hundred times bigger than The Silent Message. On his helmet screen, there was a timer in red. 2:00:00. This meant the bomb was released, and the pods would be launched in under two minutes, giving the bomb enough time to do it's damage.

He saw the bomb on it's way. Although it was visible, it was also just as undetectable as the ship. When it was close enough, it detonated. The light was blinding, but it went away quickly. The shields flickered for a few seconds, then failed. The EMP part then exploded, sending trillions of bright blue sparks around the ship. As Lord Hood said, one of the ships large hanger bay opened. Sucking everything and everyone inside it out into space. Thank god for oxygen suits.

Aaron's heart rate skyrocketed. This was it, this operation could be the key to Humanity's survival. In front of him, the pods launched, then his did. They were getting closer and closer. In front of him, he saw a spark, then two pods come out of invisibility. The two pods hit each other, and went out of control. One pod exploded in space. He checked the two screens in his pod. They weren't Martin's or Michelle's pod. Good. The other pod spun wildly, and hit another pod, which both blew up on impact. Only 997 ODSTs left.

He hated that. He felt it was his fault those three died. He couldn't let that destroy himself. They were almost at the bay. He slowly maneuvered himself to land inside the ships bay. It was even bigger than he thought. The bay itself was able to hold a UNSC Destroyer. Finally, after what seemed like an impossible task, he felt the thump, and his pod swung open. Each ODST squad leader had an AI that was able to take over the Covenant ship. Hood feared that many ODSTs would die. They needed at least one AI to make it to the control room. Sadly, they didn't have enough "smart" AI's to go around, which is why only squad leaders got them.

He looked outside the hanger bay. Pods were still coming in. Once the last one came in, he would close the bay. As he was watching, a pod hit the tip of the hanger bay. The pod landed in the bay sideways, and rolled violently all the way to the end of the bay, where it exploded. Floating pieces of metal and flesh were the result of the explosion. 996 ODSTs left.

The last pod finally landed, and he pressed a button on the hanger bay door. After it closed, he stopped floating, along with anything else still floating. The 996 ODSTs still left were all accounted for. He heard an explosion, and looked towards the end of the bay. There were about a hundred Grunts with fuel rod cannons all aimed down at the ODSTs.

The battle was just getting started. Aaron quickly ran to his pod to get his BR, where he found Martin and Michelle, both returning fire from the cover of their pods. He took aim with his BR, and tried shooting at some of the Grunts. He was out of range. The ODSTs who brought snipers started to use them. One by one the Grunts fell, but not before shooting their weapons. A fellow ODST a few feet away from him was hit directly with a fuel rod projectile. Half his body was vaporized, with blood spilling everywhere around him.

It got all quite.

"Michelle, you see anything?" Aaron yelled into his squad channel."

Michelle peered inside her Sniper scope. "No, nothing yet, was that it?"

"No way that was it, on this huge ship?" Martin replied.

The hundred or so doors in the hanger bay opened. Aaron just noticed the dumb design of the hanger bay. There were no upper floors surrounding the ODSTs. The only upper floors and doors were located at the other end of the bay. This was good for him and his men because they wouldn't be under siege.

Out of the doors came Drones, and Elites. The Elites were running full speed at the ODSTs while the Drones fired their plasma pistols at the ODSTs.

"Snipers!", Aaron yelled out. "Focus on the Elites! Everyone else, take out those damn bugs!"

Bullets and plasma were everywhere. Left and right bugs were falling. Aaron emptied his BR ammo, and switched to his SMG. He took down five more bugs. He didn't even bother aiming, he just sprayed his bullets.

The situation was becoming worse and worse. The Elites stopped running, and instead, started to slowly push towards the ODSTs. Most of the bugs were now dead. The bay was littered with them. Now they had to deal with the Elites. The Snipers were doing their work, now the others had to do theirs. Aaron looked at the top left number in his HUD. 887. That was the number of ODSTs left.

One by one the Elites were being picked off, until there were about a hundred left. This is when they started to sprint again. This time they made it to the ODSTs. They dropped their weapons, and instead, decided to use their fists. An Elite with yellow armor came rushing at him. He saw a fist hit his helmet. His screen shattered a bit, and he fell to the floor. Another blow hit has back, and he turned around. The Elite lifted him by his neck with one arm, and took out an Energy sword. It smiled. "You and your pathetic race will all die soon, You sha---". Before it could finish, a piece of it's head flew off. Purple blood spurted on Aaron, some if it leaking to the inside of his suit. The Elite's grip loosened, and Aaron fell to the floor, and watched the Elite fall on it's back.

He looked to where the shot came from, the right. It turned out to be Martin, with smoke coming from his Shotgun. He reloaded it, and nodded to Aaron. "I got your back big boy.

He looked at the number in the corner of his HUD. He could barely tell what it was. There was a crack starting from the top left zigzagging all the way to the bottom right. The number was either 827 or 837. He couldn't tell.

"Martin, how many we got left?" Martin looked at Aaron.

"In total, I think we got a few mags left." Aaron frowned. "I'm talking about ODSTs..."

"Oh, we got 827 left."

He sighed. He wished it was 837. He looked around at the carnage. Purple and dark greenish blood, hundreds of bodies, red blood here and there.

"I will alert Lord Hood of the situation, Martin, make sure everyone is all right. Michelle, keep your eyes peeled."

There was a whoosh noise, and Aaron looked up. There were Banshees over head, and in the distance, Wraiths.

No, acnboy. Spartain Ken 15 is a lesser being. Much like the bacteria that lives in your shit.

My shit bacteria takes offense to that comparison.

Don't make me lel. You won't like me when I lel.

I'm glad you're continuing this, sadly I've completely forgotten what's happened up until this point so I'll have to reread what's already been out.

Keep it up!

Thanks. I don't blame you though. I just didn't have any time to write about this. I'm not going to lie, but I had to skim through everything to know where I was at. Hopefully I could write some more tomorrow. And I noticed I went like four or five chapters without even mentioning those ODSTs. I realized that since the Dreadnought takes like 15-20 days to reach Earth, I can use that time to just write about ODSTs.
