The 48 hour trial may be part of the issue. I can't say for sure but I know that sometimes not having a ''permanent'' account can sometimes cause problems for some reason. As for changing the account I am kind of at a loss on that one, you should be able to go into your settings menu and adjust the family settings with it, if you can't the only thing I can think of is to start a new account. If it is not a child account and you can't change the settings you may wanna give Microsoft support a ring, they may be able to help you figure out what's wrong better than I can.
