Subject: Blacklisting and perma-banning.

It seems as though there are some people that just don't learn. They break the rules and get blacklisted only to come back and break the rules yet again. Whenever somebody creates a "How many times have you been blacklisted?" thread, there are always those who almost proudly admit to many blacklistings.

I believe that there should be something akin to a "3 strikes, you're out" policy on Bungie.net. Taking a 7 day vacation from Bungie.net doesn't seem too good of a deterrent for some people, but limiting them to a certain number of blacklisting before a perma-ban might make them follow the rules a little closer. I say if somebody get's blacklisted more than 3 times and still can't follow the rules, they don't deserve to be a part of this community.

Dmbfan09 has a good, and harsh idea. I agree, even though if this takes effect, I only have two strikes...

Actually, I was thinking the slate would be wiped clean. It would be a little too unfair to automatically perma-ban the people who have multiple blacklistings prior to a new policy being put into effect.

Hmm like the idea. Not sure how harsh it is really. My personal judgement gets in the way

I don't believe it is harsh at all. The rules of the forums are there for a reason and should be followed. If a member has consistently shown that they are unable to follow the rules, they shouldn't be allowed to be a part of the community.

Edit: Wait, were you saying it was too harsh Gods Prophet? I don't think I truly understood your post...

Let me put it this way. I don't think it's harsh, like you. However, i am unsure how harsh it really is.

How about we just perma ban everyone? No warning, just BAM you're gone?

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

If Ya did that hen the bumber of people on bungie would decrease alot.

I sense sarcasm...

Listen, I just thought of this idea after somebody with a count of his number of blacklistings in his signature (5 by the way) created a thread about religion in The Flood. He knew he was going to get blacklisted for it, but still created it anyway.

Sorry for thinking of this place as a community instead of just a video game designer's website...

Edit: Why would the number of people on Bungie.net matter EAGLES5?

I think it's a good idea, although I'm not sure how much trouble it would be for Achronos to implement it. Everyone would have to start off with a clean slate, or it would be rather unfair. I don't think it's harsh at all if people are warned that they have 3 strikes (it could have how many "strikes" you have left on the the "you are blacklisted from the forums" page).

We have acually discussed a similar system in HFCS previously. Kind of a, "three strikes and you're out" system.

Well, if you guys have already discussed this, then I guess this thread is kind of pointless...

I have requested that he be permabanned, but only because he repeatedly broke the same rule without caring that he had broken that rule. "Three strikes and you're out" isn't the best way to go - permabannings should be handed out either for a really bad rule break or for repeatedly breaking a rule without caring (as in, you're not going to learn).

Well, how much hope do you have that people that break the rules enough to be blacklisted multiple times will actually learn something? I understand why perma-bans are currently used for extreme purposes, but don't you think that a perma-ban looming over somebody will make them follow the rules?

Why does this post only have questions and no declarative statements?

It would realy have to be split. There are people here who are generally good posters, but they can occasionally go a bit post friendly and get themselves blacklisted for a stupid reason. But I suppose there are those who are always stupid posters who a "3 and out" would be good for.

Its a sort of thing that would have to be a sencible medium for.

I like this. Too many people get away with too many things, so kicking them out for repeatedly breaking the rules would be a hella way to fix it.

hmmmm, i seem to be a bit of a fickle minded mush head on this one.

I can see the merit (and the downside) of all of the suggestions throughout this thread but i don't think i can really come down on one side or't other. While I agree that the perma-ban probably needs to be waved at people at more ferociously in the hopes that some of the less socially adept posters will quit it and die, it's also painfully obvious (and highlighted earlier by SSgt Sniper) that all you have to do is go create another account.

While this would slow the spammers/haters/whatever down some would still reappear..... although maybe if they couldn't link the gamertag that was linked to their previous accounts to b.net (so no stats, game viewer, etc...) that would provide more of an interesting consequence to acting the twat on the forums. Especially since most of the arses on here only play halo/halo 2 and aren't really interested in the community/septagon/old skool aspects of b.net

Damn....my Britishy swearwords have evaded the blam filter....i think Bungie needs to add some international swears to the blamtionary. if i was one of the aforementioned spammy troll poster types i could get sweary in all sorts o languages.......which, of course, i'm not! ;-P

Maybe Achronos should go here amd get jiggy eith the copy and paste. lol. sorry about the o/t nature of this little rant, feel free to reprimand (though not perma-ban ;-) )
