Subject: Halo 2 Maps vs Halo 3 Maps

I was just wondering what everyone thinks about the Multiplayer maps. I know that in a couple of weeks it is not going to matter much cuz we will all be stuck in Halo 3 whether we like it or not.

Back to the subject at hand. I recently took a walk down memory road and popped in my Halo 2 disk and downloaded all the (FREE!!! Man how much money did I throw down for these maps back in the day?) maps. None of my old Xbox friends exist anymore and my new 360 friends were to busy playing MW2 (blah I need new friends) to play with me. So I just ran around the maps that I ones played till the wee hours of the night freshman, sophomore, and junior years of High School. I would remember the death battles that would go down in this hallway and the race to get the rocket here. The corner where some camper would sit with the shotgun and where all the power ups spawn. And you want to know something... I care MORE about these maps and levels then say Halo 3's combined maps (excluding Last Resort... cuz Zanzibar is the -blam!-!). The way it feels, looks, where items are placed, and just about everything just feels more right in this game then in H3.

Obviously graphically the games are not on par. And H3 did fix alot of bugs and kicked those stinking modders in the nuts. But to me the maps in H3 are just kinda boring. No excitement, lack of creativity, no secret little tunnels or weapon hideouts. I MISS THAT. And I can't believe how stupid I am for ignoring that need. I'm kicking myself right in the ass for that. Stupid stupid teenage angst.

So tell me what you think. Do you agree? Disagree? Hate me? Love me? Want to make fun of my mom? Please leave your thoughts. I am very interest in knowing what people are thinking of these two great games. But if you need me I'll be playing Halo 2 till it's dead. It deserves atleast that if not more. :)

Halo 2 for Life!

H3 was made to be different then H2 but i dont understand why. Really it's not the just the maps (H2 had better multiplayer maps especially for Big Team) it was the whole package, it seemed to be slower in halo3 everything developing and getting use to the slower Xbox live interface (easier to mute and way harder to send negative feedback slowed my gaming experience down). Also the overall game play wasn't to my liking in H3 compared to H2 and other games. Also I think the weapons were better in H2 (simpler and fewer, made for fun dynamics), death sequences were better in H2, and for me i like the older style graphics in H2 more then the flashy almost glossy looking characters and environments in H3 i know the game developers hate me to say these things but it was almost worth just releasing H2 with a new campaign (then make H3 in my opinion).

If you find this wall of text to much to read, just read the first and last sentences.

A Hell Jumper - Heroic, a Spartan - Legendary, be We're Mythic; Spartan Mythic Team.

Post to everyone who complains about Reach instead of shutting up and playing something else. http://initiativedesignz.webs.com/HaloReachStuff/Fixn.jpg

ALL the Halo 2 maps were better than the base H3 maps & most of the DLC ones (I like all the re-make maps & really enjoy Orbital/Sandbox). I loved the Halo 2 DLC it was the best- I doubt they will but I hope in light of whats happened to Halo 2 they release DLC of all the maps from the 1st two games for Reach when its released.

Nostalgia plays a big part in peoples favourites. With this in mind, both games had some really impressive maps. Deciding would'nt be fair on any developer working on multiplayer maps.

It's a good thing I'm a pokemon trainer, and can handle your Jiggly-Puffs.

I totally agree with you. I don't know how to explain it, but everything feels right. Even having a warthog on turf fit well for some reason. Halo 3 sucks because it's filled with campers and MLG losers. I think I like Halo 2 because I makes me look back at my childhood playing this game for the first time at a friends house. It was simple, and I really liked that. Having huge maps like Coagulation, where there are two little tunnels on each side, and then just an open playing feild was great. I hate Halo 3 maps because they are mostly small, like Orbital. Halo 3 didn't have the charm that Halo 2 had. Superjumps, button glitches, noob combo, it was just awesome.

Elongation, Colossus, Relic, and Coagulation were my favorites.

I agree with the nostalgia aspect so I could be a little bias. I did play this game alot. And without it I would be a very different person that I am today. And I think someone said something about H3's base maps. I have to admit... those suck major (Isolation for instance. I'll veto that one.). But the DLC ones are not that bad.

I would pay out the ass to play these older bigger maps from H2 on H3 but that is so very unlikely. I understand that someone has to get paid for all that work. And not to mention if the graphics could support some of those big big maps (like Waterworks). But who knows... Reach is just around the corner with the beta even closer. Maybe my nostalgic needs will be met in some shape or form.

I second the motion.

It's all about teamwork. :)

They use different map designers for each map sets most of the time, it's usually made up of a team. I believe the guys who worked for bungie who made most of the Halo 2 maps, moved on to split up and became Certain Affinity.

Halo 2's maps were more sleek, designed for good multiplayer, and worried less about being "pretty". Like they have said on the bonus disc for Halo 2 Collectors Edition. "It needs to be fun before it needs to be pretty." I agree with this. I think unfortunatley with new consoles and graphics, it's the new standard to make maps look as good as humaly possible without ruining gameplay too much. I honestly prefer ledges/landings/walls/ramps/etc without the extra bull-blam!- detail that my grenades get stuck to. I prefer arena style levels though.

I think there is too much detail, It's not the graphics, but the detail. Bumps on the ground, stairs instead of ramps, grenades bouncing backwards up ramps. There just aren't all those sweet grenade points anymore. Halo 3 is SO slow paced compared to Halo 2. Its just not as fun to watch.

IMO Halo 2 Maps>Halo 3 maps
When Halo 3 came out, I couldn't pick a map that I genuinely liked besides the Beta maps. I'm pretty sure I liked every single Halo 2 map. I think I only like probably 5 maps. I dont get "excited" when I see maps pop up like I did with Halo 2. Remember that feeling when Lockout/Beaver Creek/Midship came up on your screen?

/end rant

You know what I used to hate Midship when I first started playing. But the more it came out and I had to play the better I got at stinking grenades with plasmas. So I have that map to be thankful for.

RIP Halo 2

I prefer my least favorite Halo 2 maps to my favorite Halo 3 maps. Except Backwash.

Backwash doesn't count... that's the retarded blind brother that we left in the attic to die.

to original poster; I did the same thing re: walking around the maps. So many memories, Halo 3 has not given me anywhere near the same feeling.

"Do you smell that son"
"No Captain, What is it"
"Napalm Son, I love the smell of Napalm in the morning"

I remeber playing a custom game on lockout, 16 players were on at one point, played for 8 hours straight, didn't get bored at all, random people joined, didn't care if i was getting my ass kicked, people dbl shot, triple shot & quad shot, when i got mrked by a beastly quad shot, i was like wow!

On H3 i get none of those feelings, i went into h3 with the intension of getting a 50, i did it quite easily, on H2 i couldn't get past 25? I had fun losing on H2 not on H3, maybe because it IS just better in all aspects!

I am a Gamer by nature, but an anime lover by heart

altough I got Halo 2 just a few weeks after it's relese I've never played online multiplayer before I got my Xbox 360 and Halo 3, altough I've played alot of halo 2 via system link with my friends at school, I started to play some halo 2 online on my 360 but since it often takes longer time to find players than it takes to finish a match I haven't played much halo 2 matchmaking, I don't know the DLC maps very well but I know the maps that where shipped with the game as the back of my hand, I've played system link that much. it's a wonderful game, but I prefer Halo 3, and I don't agree with u when u say that H3 maps where boring an lack creativity, becuase they don't they are exiting and well balanced, I yeah I gonna help with sending Halo 2 out with a bang, perhaps we meet sometime in H2 before it goes away for good
