ICE ICE BABY

Shortly after the events of Halo 3, a powerful brute chieftain rose to the top of the Brutes because he was the strongest and all the brutes wanted to be lead by the strongest.

The rest of the Covenant was so angered with the prophets that they forsook their wishes of embarking on the great journey. The Covenant had all but fallen apart when the Brutes led by their ruthless chieftain, rose to the top of the Covenant. They promised to punish the humans for all they had done. And the whole covenant rejoiced in the idea. The Chieftain promised that the covenant would rise up and strike down the humans while they recovered.
And so the onslaught began

With full force the brutes and the rest of the covenant went from colony to colony destroying the feeble attempts from the humans to stop them. Keeping their entire force of Covenant together as one fleet, the Chieftain was unstoppable. A majority of the colonies fell to the Covenant before the Chieftain decided to go straight for the throat, Earth. He knew that Earth was their most protected planet but he still knew that they were still weak from the previous attack of the prophets.

The Chieftain decided that instead of glassing Earth they were going to invade it and make the humans suffer. The Chieftain wanted to make an example out of Earth. He would take down Earth and cripple humanity forever.

On Earth the humans have become aware of the Covenant's coordinates. Lord Hood is aware of the fact that without a defense grid set up the Covenant could come in and glass the planet without as much as a scratch on their fleet.

"What if we get the MAC AA weapons optimized?" an officer asks.
"Even with them up and running we couldn't do enough to stop the glassing." states another officer.
"They haven't glassed a single planet after Reach what makes you think they would start now?" Lord Hood inquires.
"Are you suggesting that they are launching a full scale invasion on Earth?" asks one of the officers.
"They are bringing more than enough ships to glass the planet. Why would they bring more when they could be destroying two planets at once?" inquires Hood.
"Well we have too few forces to stop them. There is nothing we can do.", says the officer.
"Sir, I am sorry to interrupt but we have just picked up a homing beacon we believe to be the Chief's." states a corporal.
"Could it really be? Is it possible that he survived the detonation? We need ships out there as soon as possible to investigate wherever it is that he is.", Hood demanded.
"But sir any ships sent out would surely be intercepted and destroyed by the Covenant fleet." says the officer.
"We will send one ship from one of the few colonies left." Hood states.
"The ship will be to where the Chief's beacon is, which appears to be near some sort of Forerunner planet, within the next ten minutes." states the corporal.
"Let's just hope he is still alive." Lord Hood said.

The ship sent to retrieve the Chief arrived to the Forerunner. The piece of the Dawn was floating in orbit. A squad of marines went in and retrieved the Chief and Cortana. Once back on board the Chief and Cortana were briefed about their situation. Cortana ran scenarios of such an invasion and even with the Chief there was only a five percent chance of repelling the invasion. But Cortana hypothesized about the possibility of a few surviving Spartans on the forerunner planet. There was a small encampment on the planet that had a possibility of life in it. The Chief was sent to investigate and there were three Spartans along with about one hundred civilians. They ended up there after the UNSC had left them for dead on a Covenant cruiser.
After some convincing the three Spartans agreed because of their loyalty to the survival of mankind. They embarked back to Earth shortly afterwards. On the way the four Spartans were briefed on the situation. There was just one problem. There was a huge covenant fleet in between them and Earth.

The ship they were in had slip space capabilities and Cortana hypothesized about jumping out of slip space within Earth's atmosphere over the Atlantic. It was their best and only chance. So they gave it a shot
It worked perfectly and they arrived just in the nick of time.
Lord Hood immediately contacted them and informed them of their situation

"The brutes are attacking Washington D.C. because they know we have more information there than anywhere else on Earth. If D.C. falls then the brutes will have all the information they need to defeat us. You four Spartans will be sent in along with few more squads and some vehicles to aid a large force of ODST who are defending it. ." Hood stated.

The four Spartans were launched in drop pods to the surface where they met up with the ODST. Even though ODST hate Spartans they were still excited that the Spartans showed up to save their skins. They had created a perimeter around the three most important building there, the CIA building, the FBI building, and the ONI site. They held out for hours but eventually the brutes stopped coming. The Spartans were immediately extracted and sent to London to stop the onslaught there.

They stopped the London attacks and many other Europe attacks. It was clear that within a week Europe would easily be the human's again. It took the humans longer to recapture Europe than it did for the brutes to capture what they had at the moment only because the brutes were vast in number at first. The Covenant had focused most of their attention on Europe but still lost because of the inspiration that fighting alongside a Spartan gave to the marines.

After Europe the Spartans helped win back the United States. Before they finished the USA liberation the Chieftain became aware of his defeat

"We had this world conquered!" shouted the Chieftain, "How could this possibly happen?"
"The Spartans, they inspire courage and strength into everyone around them, especially those drop troopers." his general said.
"I will not lose like the Prophet did. Order the ships to get into position to wipe this pathetic planet from the face of the galaxy."
"But sir, we still have troops down there."
"Did I ask for your comments? Do as I command or more lives will be lost."
"It will take several hours to get into position."
"Then what are you waiting for?"

An hour into the process it became apparent to Lord Hood what was happening.

"What if we send in ODST or Spartans to the ships?" asked one of the officers.
"There are far too many. There is nothing we can do now. Damn. After all this the brutes will still win." Lord Hood said with a sense of defeat in his voice.
"Did someone call for some air support?" the Arbiter said over the intercom

The whole room exploded in cheer. The Arbiter had gone back to the Sangheli home world and had rallied everything the Elites had and had returned. They were still outnumbered but not by much.

A space battle ensued the likes of which no one had ever seen. Lord Hood took this opportunity to get the MAC AA guns optimized. The AA was just what the Elites needed to sway the battle.

The elites avoided firing upon the Chieftain's ship knowing that he would run if they did but staying close enough where he couldn't make a jump.
A strike force of four Spartans boarded the Chieftain's cruiser. The cruiser was the most heavily fortified ship, this mission would be all but impossible. The Spartans slowly but surely made their way up towards the bridge. On the way they encountered a hunter in a small corridor. It was unwinnable. One of the Spartans distracted him while the others made a run for it. He sacrificed himself for the good of the cause.

They finally made it to the bridge where the Chieftain was waiting.

"DEMON! You have caused only pain and suffering for the whole Covenant. Your life will end today by my hand." the Chieftain growled angrily.
"Give up. We have you outnumbered and out skilled." shouted one of the other Spartans.

Without warning the Chieftain flung himself at the cocky Spartan and crushed him with his gravity hammer.

"Now there are only two. Care to give up yet" asked the Chieftain.

He flung himself at another Spartan. This time he dodged it and the Chieftain swung at the ground. He turned around grabbed the Spartan and flung him at a wall. The Chief began firing his pistol at him. The Chieftain jumped up and quickly grabbed his hammer and charged the Chief. He pinned the Chief on the floor and was inches away from pressing the hammer deep into the Chief's skull when the Spartan who was flung at the wall shot him with his magnum a few times which grabbed the Chieftain's attention for a moment and at this moment Chief shoved the spiked part of the hammer deep into the Chieftain's chest. The Chieftain looked down at the hammer then back up at the Chief.

"You you beat me.", the Chieftain stuttered.

Then he collapsed to the floor. The Chief got up and along with the other Spartan went and looked out the window at the battle. The elites had destroyed most of the Covenant fleet. They had taken heavy losses themselves but thanks to the skilled firing of the AA grid they won.

In the weeks that followed the UNSC had no problem finishing off the rest of the Covenant with the help of the Elites on the ground and in the sky.

"Spartan, we have finally finished the Covenant for good. Now both of our races shall be at peace. You helped free us from the prophet's grasp and we have repaid the favor. I hope we can live in harmony from now on." said the Arbiter.

The two surviving Spartans were praised as kings. They were the reason Earth had survived and the Covenant extinguished. They will always be remembered...

Note: I would prefer if the Chief rescued the Spartans trapped in the pods at Onyx but with all the senttinels still present i could think of no logical way for the Chief to save them. If you have any thoughts on the matter please share them.
