All it took was a stew of whoopass.

Those giant jumps that are performed in certain areas of the maps, how or why were they created? Funny how some maps (I don't know all of them, so hold your horses) have superbounces, but were they intentional? If so, why? Did Bungie put them in as some sort of hidden tactic that if found could launch us in areas we normally wouldn't? But if they were not intentional, how were they created? Was it some sort of mixup in the program? Was it some sort of bug that Bungie left unchecked or not even knowing until people started to find them? Please, if you have a logical answer or a link that Bungie talks about superbounces, please post them.

I always thought they were unintentional. And I'm pretty sure that they work like that because the lines that make up the map (you can see them by pressing start and bringing up your friends-list) some of them don't meet up perfectly and when you land on them just right it sends you "below" the map. When this happens the system sends you flying high up in the air to get you back into the map. That's how I think it works.

Variety is the spice of life.
Long live games.
Death to all fanboys.

They were unintentional. It was severely frowned upon by Bungie for players to use it in Matchmaking as a winning clutch, but they couldn't ban players for it.

What happens is, when you crouch into a corner like you do, you get stuck in the map. Once you land on a crack/hole in the map, it forces you out, causing you to get forced out of the map and 'super jumping'.

It's a good thing I'm a pokemon trainer, and can handle your Jiggly-Puffs.

My friend explained this to me before. He said something like when you superbounce, you go into the map when you crouch, and when you jump in certain areas, the game tries to keep you in the map(instead of killing you), by forcing you up into the map, and shooting you into the air. Then people started exploiting them in MM, and Bungie didn't like that. But you couldn't get banned for it because it's a glitch in the game, and you shouldn't ban people just for doing a glitch. There are also 1,000s or more superbounces just on Metropolis in Campaign, so who knows how many total are in campaign and customs.

I always wondered that, but was never into glitching enough to care.
It annoyed me while I was playing H2, that's for sure!

My son called it sword canceling. It's when you take a swing at someone with the sword while holding down buttons. The person should be higher up and when you sword cancel, you are propelled above the other person.

Good -blam!-.
I remember that now. I think some called it flying too, but I for sure remember the whole 'canceling' thing now. This thread is dope.
Good memories.

I think they were just another thing that bungie put in the game to make it even more entertaining. If youve ever found the giant soccer ball or the scarab gun, youll know what i'm talkin about

Love Star Wars and Sci fi? join KOTOR

I know that you could find them by opening your friends list, closing it, and before the graphics loaded you could see the seems in the map. Thats where you would jump to get a bounce. But as to why they were there, i would say it was all a mistake

Agreed, I loved all those glitches.

Stairway to heaven, jumping to the bottom of Ascension, the old flag bouncing trick on Colossus, etc. Good -blam!- times.
