Subject: Nov. 9th sign is gone.

Webcam 3--somebody took down the Nov. 9th sign the naysayers were citing as "proof" that it's Nov. 9th. And they didn't change the view of the webcam--it's still focused on the same Ghost, just the placard is gone.

I'm definitely not certain it'll be earlier, but I also doubt the authenticity of the certitude of those who say it's still for sure Nov. 9th. I think they're just being cynics.

Yeah, nothing says cynical like listening to an official announcement. I mean, cynical doesn't at all involve disregarding an official announcement because of an ambiguous countdown on an obscure website.

Talk about cynical.

Indeed.

Also, did it cross your mind that it would be FALSE ADVERTISING to display November 9th and ILoveBees in the same trailer if ILB meant the coming of an earlier release date?

This is true Shiska, however the we aren't saying the official announcement isn't true, because the announcement was 11/9/04.... the countdown on the website stops at August 24th... Now, people believe it will come out earlier because if u add 11+9+04 = 24. So, technically the offical announcement made WAS true, however they could have been mis-leading to say it's really August 24th. So, I'm just explaining the other side of the story :)

^ Not really Nov 9th Could be a date In Halo 2 like the date earth is attacked. In that video it doesnt say its a release date, yes its implied that it is. It wouldnt be a false advertising game companies can change the date all they want.

No, legally false advertising has to do with the falsity of the SUBSTANCE of a product or service, not timing of release. And you contradict yourself if you admit that it was Bungie who gave rise to the ambiguity (which would be required if it were false advertising).

The obscure website was created by Bungie/Microsoft and advertised in their own theatrical trailer, no? The countdown is ambiguous, as you say, and so it opens the door to the POSSIBLITY of an early release. What is unambiguous is the dogmatic assertion--despite the ambiguity that Bungie themselves injected into the matter--that release will certainly remain Nov. 9th.

Besides, when Bungie made the Nov. 9th announcement, it was understood by all that they were guaranteeing it would be no later [since that was the apprehension the announcement was intended to address]. To no one's mind did it occur: "Phew! It won't be any earlier."

Think about this. I mean, seriously.

You're asserting that Bungie basically said "Halo 2 is coming out November 9th. But when we say that, we're actually speaking in code! You see, by November 9th, we mean 11/09/04, we want fans to add those numbers up to 24. Then, when people see an ambiguous countdown on a website that leads to a date over a month before when we SAID the game would be released, people will realize we're totally talking out of our asses and THAT is when the game will be released."

Here's what I've learned about Bungie, through being a member of the community since the 90's: They don't lie. If Bungie says "This is going to happen," they mean it. In other words, Bungie isn't the kind of company that would openly bull-blam!- you just for the sake of hyping themselves. They have standards that the kind of practice you are suggesting they are following go against. When Bungie is trying to be mysterious and aloof, they don't do it in away that contradicts what they have already set in stone.

And "Halo 2's release date is November 9th" is something they set in stone. So anyone getting their hopes up for an early release are just going to find themselves disappointed.

I can't wait for the 24th of August. Not because I think we'll all be playing Halo 2 (I definately do not), I'll be glad because I won't have to hear anymore about this early release bull-blam!-!

So true. I couldn't agree more. Sadly people always build thier hopes up for no reason. Hell remember all the rumors that Halo 2 would be out November 15th of last year. Everyone was so sure that it would be.

Okay, your extended observation of Bungie I appreciate. I mean, they have their own definite character, I know. And although I think the greater probability lies with a Nov. 9th release, I don't think Halo fanatics would feel themselves in any way screwed with an early release. To the contrary, it would be like mana raining from heaven. I think Bungie knows this, and I therefore don't think it would offend their unusually high ethic of taking care of the fans. I'm just saying--I think all things augur well for something BIG happening on Aug. 24th, and it could be an early release. Did you see all the webcam shots of Frankie and the gang playing H2 this morning? Is it just me, or was this an unusually open gesture on the part of Bungie? Something's up.

As big as ilovebees may seem, one should try to keep it in perspective. Halo sold four million copies- how many of those happy fans do you think even know ilovebees exists? I find it hard, when I look at ilovebees, to believe that it's the start of something as huge as many would like to believe it is. If your definition of "BIG" is the early release of the game, or even the release of a playable demo, you may be, and most likely are, setting yourself up to be disappointed. Not enough people are retaining a healthy skepticism as they look over the website.

Another thought: Even if you haven't been around for long, perusing the updates, looking through the website itself, even playing Halo gives evidence that Bungie has an intense passion for detail. Why then is it wise to suspect an early release, when it makes MORE sense that Bungie will spend every second they can making the game as good as possible. I bet that if something gets finished BEFORE the deadline, they're going to feel that something is missing, and that more could be done. That's how they are.

Bungie has done two ARG's (alternate reality games) before, for the release of Halo 1(the cortana letters) and Marathon Gold.
The whole object is to screw with people's heads, and start discussions like these.
And while Shiska has a great view of the proceedings, anything could still be in the works at this point, you have to admit. In my experience with all of Bungie's delays and such, an official release date (which isn't worth a damn, they've had to change it before) has just as much credibility as whatever you can gather from their little joke site. Everyone realizes this is Bungie's/microsoft's doing, right?

I seriously doubt anyone is going to sue Bungie or Microsoft for false advertisement if the game comes out early.

i agree and besides that bungie is like the gods of video games they decide when they want to realease it if they think it needs more work they can simply make release date later if they think its done they can realease it earlier its their choice

How many release dates for games that you know of have ever been moved forward? Not a single one comes to my mine. The are usually delayed.

I don't. Maybe you wouldn't, and maybe your friends wouldn't, but if they come out with the game this early, i wouldn't be suprised if someone sued them.

OMFG THE SIGN IS GONE!!!! That MEANS it's coming out early!

For crying out loud....

Theres going to be a lot of dissapointed kiddies going back to school with no Halo 2. I can't wait until the 24th, so I can STOP hearing about how "it's coming out early"- unless you guys that like to add up 11/9/04 decide that 24 really means September 24, or maybe October.

My birthday this year adds up to 24, 8/12/04. Maybe I'm the chosen one...
