I'm brand new to HALO and multiplayer, but have already had plenty of run-ins with teamkillers of all kinds. Some TK'ers just want to fly the banshee, so they kill me because I got there first. One guy just kept ineptly driving a tank back and forth over my team's transporter spot mid-field in Blood Gulch. (He stopped when I mentioned it.) Sometimes I can tell somebody is just bored. We'll be standing there, and he starts meleeing me just for something to do. Of course, I've seen the TK'ers that run around on top of their own base shooting everyone in the back of the head. Had one of those yesterday, and that guy never got banned, even after dozens of TK's.
The one I don't understand usually happens in this situation: If I need a breather from long periods of intense action (or if someone at my house is trying to talk to me), I'll camp inside the base by my flag for a few minutes. One of my teammates comes down, runs around, then walks up to me and just stares. I move a little so he knows I'm not AFK. Then he just shoots me repeatedly. This is usually someone who has no betrayals. What's going on? Does everyone hate campers so much they can't abide them even on their own team?
