Simply purchasing Live for Halo 2 is worth the cost. Rumors of hidden fees shouldn't be listened to unless by "hidden" you mean you don't pay close enough attention to what you're saying "yes" and "no" to.

You dont get charged by anything that you know your not buying, theres no hidden cost. The only things that cost are the charges for having an account and downloading certain content. Most downloadable content is free though.

hint:buy a xbox live starterkit+a random game(like splinter cell, ninja gaiden) and you get all in one pack like a headset, a year subscribe to live, two demo disks, and one of the games mentioned above. or you wait till halo 2 comes out.

yeah, there are no "hidden" fees, but therre are things like little expantion packs that cost money (like there are expansions for project gotham, but it's like a little addition)

Yeah, certain content costs money, like maps, new vehicles and stuff. But it's only for certain games, and it's pretty clear that you have to pay for them- and it's usually only a couple bucks.

The thing I like about Live is that it's just one flat fee, they don't charge you per game- and you set it up once and you're good to go.

The main thing I dislike about Live is annoying little kids trying to sound tough and talking sh** on the mic. I mean, it's one thing to talk smack during a game, but when a 9 year old tells you stuff like he "did *whatever* to your mom last night", it's funny sometimes, but most of the time sounds stupid.

It's 70 bucks for the starter pack, which includes a headset, a FULL game (I think Crimson Skies) and 12 months of Live. I think it's 50 bucks a year after that...

"The way of the warrior is the path of shadow. The gift of the warrior is to percieve that which cannot be seen. The spirit of the warrior is to strike in a single moment. The destiny of the warrior is balance in all things. And when balance is lost... all that is left is the reckoning."

It's awesome, trust me, you'll want it.

50 bucks a year, or 6 bucks a month. You can get a free trial too, but no mic.

When you buy the starter kit, which I am tomorrow, do you need an ethernet cable, or can you just plug your internet wire into you XBox?

Anyone that buys Halo 2, who doesn't have live or isn't getting live are seriously gonna miss out .You cant even put into words, how good Halo 2 is going to be on xbox live. Plus you won't want to miss out on any content they might release along the way. Like someone already mentioned, you dont pay for anything, unless you give them the authority to. They won't charge you for something you dont want to pay for.

You need ethernet. There's instructions that come with it that tell you like 3 different ways to hook it up to share with your computer. The easiest way is with a router though.
