ALL OF YOU ARE IGNORANT.

Bungie DID NOT LIE.

They were told by MS that ODST would be the way to get the Beta. Bungie told everyone that. Then, M$ and their marketing crap decided to give people who played Halo 2 in the last few months a code to the Beta.

HOW THE -blam!- IS BUNGIE AT FAULT? They did NOT know. M$ does whatever they want, because they can. AND they own the rights to Halo.

Happened with the map packs. Happened with other stuff too. Bungie can't do ANYTHING with Halo except release and maintain their games.

Nope, you are just stupid.
First up - cap locks do not make your statement any louder.

Second - the law under which Microsoft set pricing and control the product is governed by laws - and these law makers would love MS to cross that line.

Now forgetting any of that ... Bungie set the playlists, and you will notice that many of these lists are restricted, forcing players to have the final DLC or go wanting.
I guess you will try to tell us only Microsoft set these blackmailing playlists??

Bungie could also have released all the DLC as 'on demand content', in much the same way maptionsack works. Maps that are not already on your xbox cache are downloaded for free as you need them.

While Halo 3: ODST was being advertised Bungie had stated that the only way to get the Mythic Map Pack Part 2 and the Halo Reach Beta was through Halo 3: ODST.

5 months later, Bungie releases the Mythic Map Pack Part 2 on the marketplace and now it seems as though Microsoft is randomly releasing Halo Reach Beta codes through E-Mails.

It seems to me that Bungie has downright lied to all of us into buying their overpriced game.

Does anybody else feel as betrayed as I do?
Micro$oft owns the Halo franchise not Bungie. Micro$oft also gets to price everything. Micro$oft is to blame not Bungie.

Edit: Why would Micro$oft have to lie about it when they got Bugnie to be there scape goat and say it for them?

Microsoft released the map pack. They own the rights to halo. They are also responsible for giving out the Beta keys, not Bungie.

i got a message from microsoft online that gave me 400ms and 3monthes of live but they only send the message to ppl who played Halo 2 or im guessing other original Xbox games online

Not really I knew they'd release the maps on the Markeplace- they said they would just not when. If you got ODST for the maps than I'm dearly sorry for you.

  • 03.05.2010 7:37 AM PDT

Kind of, but not really. They never said that these were the only ways that it would ever be possible to get the maps and the beta.

From recollection it was always their were no plans to release the maps on the marketplace.
And the game would get you a beta invite, nothing I recall them saying that it was the only way.

So did hey lie, no, was it the best way to go about, no.

They are extending the test to players which fall into specific test areas - for example to players from the AusPac region (Australia & NewZealand) due to distance and networking challenges better suited to test changes to gameplay such as hitscan.

They are also looking at gamertags which has existed for an extended period of time, and which have been held at specific skill levels - basically to set some baselines which can be monitored.

Holy f***ing asscrackers on f***ing toast!

Funny thing is, I played from 2004-2005 for Halo 2 under my old XBL account, then changed it, I don't care that I didn't get an invite, because I got ODST. I got ODST because it seemed appealing to me. Yes, it wasn't very good, what I thought was going to be a dark epic 8-9 hour campaign turned into a 5 hour romance novel, but it still wasn't bad, I got the maps and everything with it even if Halo 3's multi-player is complete garbage.

However, they didn't lie, plans just changed, they didn't expect to release the maps or beta invites at the time they released the games. They released the other content for people who either couldn't afford ODST but still wanted to play Halo 3 on all maps, or for people who just didn't want ODST, which is stupid I guess, seeing as that's the point people bought ODST was for the maps but whatever. The promotion however is for people, like me, who loved Halo 2, but are getting shafted by M$ and losing Halo 2 due to advancements on XBL.

So yes, Bungie changed everything around and screwed people who got ODST for the maps and beta exclusively, but you have to remember, they're doing this for promotional issues to try and sell more copies of Reach. Most companies do that, so I could care less, I saw all of this coming from a mile away. I just hope Reach doesn't turn out to be a steaming pile like Halo 3 was.

the only people that got the emails were people that play xbox 1 titles. Also I belive this one is more Microsoft than Bungie releaseing beta codes. Microsoft is doing this to deal with the out cry from people still playing Halo 2 and other original xbox games.

***it’s not who you are underneath, but what you do that defines you***

I still want to see a comment by an employee into the matter because things like this should definitly not go unanswered and so far it just feels like it is being ignored. This is a very important thing they need to adress because i wasted $60 on a game i have only played about 16 total hours on ya know
and this whole beta included

like wtf it makes no sense.

What are you talking about ?

  • 03.05.2010 1:47 PM PDT

If this little episode upsets you, then you are woefully unprepared for real life.

You expected a more robust game for your $60 than what Bungie clearly advertised you would get.

You expected exclusive rights to something that Bungie clearly stated would probably not be exclusive.

And, most importantly, you create a thread in this forum blaming Bungie for all this nonsense when Bungie clearly had no influence in the decision.

Look, it's real simple. Microsoft needs to upgrade the Live experience and that means original Xbox multiplayer had to go. Halo is Microsoft's cash cow. If they can possibly keep those fans that won't be able to play online any more by giving away something that doesn't cost MS anything, why wouldn't they do that.

And why should they be concerned that you are ticked off about it? Really? Microsoft's marketing strategies (like it or not) have been working quite well for them for over thirty years. They piss off people all the time (Windows ME, Vista, Outlook, etc) yet we keep coming back for more.

I applaud Bungie for not letting themselves get absorbed by MS, but MS still got the Halo franchise to do with what it pleases, and right now it pleases to give Halo2 fans a bone at the the (I'm sure) carefully calculated expense of ticking off a few fans that apparently aren't going to be pleased by anything anyway.

Nothing that you or anyone that agrees with you says on this forum will make any difference. If you really think you can influence Microsoft's decisions you should attempt to do so on Microsoft's site and see how far that will get you. Maybe that's how all those Halo2 fans ended up getting the beta key. Who knows? It sure as hell didn't happen because of anything anyone did here.

Write back after you've bought a house and let us know how that went.

  • 03.05.2010 1:54 PM PDT

Do I believe the game was a bit overpriced, yep

Did Bungie lie to us, no.

It was not their decision, it was Microsoft's decision. Sure people will be pissed at the moment, but if you want someone to blame, blame it on M$.

  • 03.05.2010 1:56 PM PDT

Who cares? your still getting the beta and you got the map pack half a year early.

No. Why should they be held responsible for things they have no control of in the first place? If MS commands them to tell the community something, then they have to do it. If MS later decides to change their minds and put money first, which by now is no surprise, then Bungie again has no choice but to relay their decisions to us.

Don't shoot the messenger.

So Bungie shouldn't be held responsible for their actions because Micro$oft told them to do it?

Exactly. They shouldn't. They were told to do it since MS owns Halo. Since they are currently developers of Halo, they have to listen to what they say or they probably wouldn't be allowed to even make anything Halo related. Besides, they probably didn't even tell Bungie they were going to put it on the Marketplace (and if you seriously didn't see this coming, you obviously don't pay attention to marketing strategies and are probably not prepared to handle how you control your financial syste)

You obviously missed the entire point of this thread. Bungie blatantly lied to it's dedicated fanbase just for money.

Also saying "Micro$oft told them to do it, it's not their fault
" does not exclude Bungie from blame. They should have never used false advertising when they damn well knew micro$oft would pull a stunt like this.

This is exactly my point its false advertising... they said the maps were only available on odst and crap like that but then released them after a time period. Stop milking it for wat its not truely worth Micro$oft

  • 03.05.2010 2:42 PM PDT

I don't it feels like a expensive expansion pack but the should have added matchmaking for fire fight

  • 03.05.2010 2:52 PM PDT

if bungie explicitly said that mythic map pack 2 wouldnt be released on marketplace it is misrepresentation as long as it induced you in to buying odst... however who can honestly say they only baught odst to get the mythic maps

and to those saying dont shoot the messenger. bungie were acting as an agent to microsoft, if they lied they lied whether microsoft told them to or not or whether it was on behalf of microsoft
