I am buying XBL tomorrow and I have a couple questions. I have High speed internet already, so the internet connection is not a problem. Tomorrow I am buying an XBL Starter Kit and an Ethernet Cable. What exactly does an ethernet cable do/connect? Some people are saying I need a router, but GameStop.com doesn't say that. DO I NEED A ROUTER? Could somebody post a list of EVERYTHING I need?

If you want your computer to have an internet connection, as well as your Xbox, you're going to need to buy a router, simple as that

It's a good idea to invest in one

From what I know, you do need a router. I have XBL, and this is how I have it connected:
I have an ethernet cord connected from my router to the back of the Xbox.
That's all. : ) I don't know any other way how you could hook up XBL w/o a router. So, all you need for XBL is:
Ethernet Cord
XBL Subscription
Xbox
Router
(Optional) Headset
Your mom or dads credit card, unless you have one yourself...

really if you have high speed internet it is a good idea to have a router anyways. it is very unwise in this day and age to have a broadband connection without the hardware protection of a router.
